We can get the six sided ring back!

Postby Westcoastvibes » Jun 17, '14, 9:09 pm

So apparently TNA has heard at least one of the gripes fans have been sending there way, one there site right now is an open poll. The outcome of this poll after impact goes off the air this Thursday will decide if TNA goes back to the six sided monster that set them apart from any other promotion or if they stay with the traditional 4 sided ring. This is not a one off thing, whatever the outcome will be is what they use permanantly starting in the NY tapings.

If you have been a person that used to watch TNA or still do and think that their decline started with the hogan regime and the retirement of the six sided ring, then vote and let's bring it back.

When are they bringing a good show back? I will admit that the X division is more exciting in a six sided ring.

I'd like it if they did as it was a trademark and would remind me of a better time...but then I'd be sad about how bad the company has gotten and wouldn't want them to soil the memory of something good.

A big advantage of the 6 sided ring is that it worked better for the X division action, and the X division has all but disappeared. So bringing back the old ring wouldn't make a huge difference. I'd still prefer it though, because it was something unique to TNA. Plus, their current ring just bothers me because it's too small.

Does anyone else not feel that this smacks of hypocrisy and desperation?

Fans loved the six sided ring, but TNA got rid of it in an attempt to be more like other wrestling brands, despite the fans' disappointment. All of a sudden, the company go to shit and there's talk of bringing the six sided ring back.

To little too late, if you ask me. They should have kept it in the first place. It made TNA unique and now they sound like they're just trying to bail themselves out of bad mistakes they made in the past.

It's just another attempt at a "quick fix". TNA deal in quick fixes. That's been the major problem with the company for years. They're always trying to find that one move that will make all their troubles disappear, and obviously such a thing does not exist.

So Austin Aries has come out against the six sides on Twitter.

He kinda has a point, then again, they wrestled in 6 sides for years too. What's everyone think? Should it be up to the wrestlers themselves?

If there are safety concerns connected with the six sides, then it's not worth the trade. Though I'm not sure if that was the specific ring they had before or six sides in general. Maybe it's more of a general risk because its harder to keep track of the space around you while wrestling. If not, then they could just try and improve the quality of the ring this time around.

It always bugs me when wrestlers trot out the "if you haven't been in the ring, your opinion doesn't matter" argument though. Of course the opinion of the consumers is always going to be valid. They support the show, they pay for it and they sustain it. Ultimately everything that happens in the ring is to service the wants of the fans, and obviously the fans know more about what they want than the wrestlers.

ultimately it should be about the wrestlers and what they want. at the same time TNA needs to do something, they make so many swings and always miss. its obvious that TNA does not know what the fans want and by leaving it up to the fans TNA has a surefire way of pleasing them. although some wrestlers don't like the 6 sides, they way I look at it is if six sides becomes a turning point for TNA and allows them to gain back some lost fans or even gain more then the talent gets to distance themselves from the idea of losing their jobs.

I know TNA needs to do a lot more than switching ring shapes to get out of this downward spiral but ultimately it may lead to more positive changes if it works. if more people watch then in theory more people will buy tickets to shows, the more money they have the more they can better the product with better creative writers and better production.

I remember reading that the six sides was mixed in approval from the wrestlers. the general differences described was that the shape alone makes any type of whip move difficult because of the limited space. The ropes themselves are less forgiving because the distance from buckle to buckle is shorter creating a rope that is more taunt and again, because of the shape the mat has less give when taking bumps on it.

some guys love it because the tighter ropes and shorter distances allow for different high profile moves that you don't normaly see in the square and the tighter ropes allow for higher springboard moves. others don't like it cause the tighter ropes are less forgiving on the body when hit and the stiffer mat makes the bumps hurt more.

in the end I guess you get the pros with the cons and it depends on who you talk to that has "been in the ring" on if six sides is safe or not.
