Yet again we ask again...is Sting going to retire this year?

Postby Headlesspete » Oct 09, '13, 8:01 pm

As happens every year, Sting's one year contract will soon be coming up for renewal. With Sting another year older, and with TNA making major cost cutting measures, will Sting stick with TNA, or maybe more shocking, will TNA stick with Sting?

I can't help feel he can't want to hang around much more. He's the oldest active wrestler in both WWE and TNA, and he's given all he can. Is it time for TNA to let Sting go? Or, will they try and keep him for another year, trying to maximize on his name value?

For me, I'm torn. On one side, I'd love for Sting to leave and have the match with Undertaker most want to sse. Yeah, it won't be the same as it was 10 years ago, and yes the feud will be more tame than what we would have gotten before, but we all know how well respected these two legends are, and Hulk Hogan proved at WrestleManiaX8, you don't need to be in peak condition to rock a crowd. The mere presence of these two facing each other would send the WrestleMania 30 crowd into a frenzy. And is there any more Sting can do for TNA? It would seem his star has shone as bright as it can. Let him have that one final match, get him in the Hall of Fame, and let him enjoy his retirement.

On the other side, TNA need the name value Sting brings. If promoted and used the right way, Sting can still bring in the viewers and put talent over. I am certain he'll put Magnus over come Bound for Glory, and with well respected veterans scarce, he'll be needed to put over other young stars.. He's the biggest name TNA have now that Hogan is gone, and i can't help feel TNA need him to keep them above water.

Thoughts?

I say go to WWE just on the purpose of going into the HoF and maybe a match with Taker.

Every year I expect Sting to retire or leave TNA, but it never happens. So I'm going to go with the safe bet once again. I think the relationship between TNA and Sting is too strong at this point. Sting is pretty much TNA's John Cena. He's always the hero, he's always involved in the big storylines. There really isn't much he can accomplish there anymore, but TNA considers him a huge star.

Sting has said in interviews that he wants to compete at Wrestlemania and the one person he wants to wrestle the most is The Undertaker. So I'm not sure what's keeping Sting from WWE. Maybe he just doesn't want to work somewhere else at this point in his life.

I'm not sure why people want Sting v Undertaker. They're both long past their prime for starters, but more importantly Sting has not been that guy in years. People wanted the match because of the potential mind game wars, but it's been a long time since Sting has played that creepy character.

There's a bit of a difference in Sting's current situation and that of Hogan back at Wrestlemania 18. For starters, Hogan is Hogan - Sting will not be remembered to the same extent. Also, Hogan had been a huge star in a huge company just a couple of years prior. For Sting that hasn't been the case in over a decade now.

As to whether Sting will retire this year ... I hope he does. But I don't think he will. Nobody retires in wrestling these days. The companies are all terrified about moving away from the past. But I really think TNA needs to market itself as the young, hungry company. Marketing guys like Sting does not help that image.

Because deep down, were all wrestling fans who like to forget the stats, the age, the storyline changes and the time changes, and just like to remember things the way they were, and to get lost in the moment.

I personally want Taker vs Sting because I can't think of anyone else that I'd like to see Sting wrestle at this point. No other potential matches for him in WWE interest me off the bat. He could always go back to the creepy mind-game playing character when he makes his WWE debut.

But I don't think WWE considers Sting a big enough star to give him the spot with Taker at Wrestlemania, especially since Taker doesn't have many matches left so they're saving that spot for Cena or Lesnar. If Sting vs Taker were to happen it would probably be on some other PPV.

Really? I think WWE would kill to have Sting vs Undertaker at WrestleMania!

I just think that if Taker only had only one more Wrestlemania match left, WWE would be more likely to have Cena as his opponent than Sting.
