Report: TNA Reaches Out to CM Punk w/ Major “Hulk Hogan” Sized Offer

Postby prophet » Oct 09, '14, 11:12 am

http://www.wrestlezone.com/news/517611- ... ized-offer

"According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA recently made an attempt to contact CM Punk, using an intermediary. It’s being said they were prepared to offer the former WWE Champion a major contract, with money in the range of what Hulk Hogan was making during his run. He would have easily been the most paid star on the roster.

Ideally, TNA would like to hire CM Punk and use him as the face of Impact Wrestling going forward, building the entire show around him. Of course, a new contract with such a well-known star could also give the company more leverage in negotiating a new television deal for 2015. That being said, Punk has no interest in getting back into pro wrestling at this point. "

Obviously they'd want Punk, they'd be fools not to at least make a play for him :lol Can't see it ever happening in a million years though.

I know right? The bloke who left WWE as the second highest-earning star due to a lack of passion for pro-wrestling would go to a sinking ship like TNA for (presumably) less money? I can't see Punk returning to wrestling at all but I reckon he'd go to Japan/remain Independent like AJ Styles before he'd sign a deal with TNA. Good for them though, they'd be fools not to at least put the feelers out.

They could hand Punk a blank check and tell him to name his own price and he still wouldn't go to TNA.

It'd be a major get for them if he was willing to sign on, and I imagine they might be willing to pay him as much or more as he was getting in WWE. From that point of view, it'd be worth his while and it'd be more than worth their while. They'd finally have a former WWE star that taps into today's culture and who would be a worthy face of the company right now, rather than 5, 10 or 20 years ago.

Punk will never take it though. The money isn't the most important thing for him, it's the creative process and the amount of attention he gets. He won't ever get that amount of attention on Impact (well at least not at first). And he doesn't seem the type to compromise on ... anything really. So I have very little faith that they could ever reach a deal.

Would be absolutely huge if he went there. But no, I really can't see it happening. Not in this universe anyway. Worth a shot though.

Kurt Angle was a pretty big deal when he went to TNA, and they were healthier then too than they are now. He didn't really help them out at all, I'm sure Punk is smart enough to know that.

If punk was smart he would take a smaller paycheck then balance the remaining with contract terms like health stock options and creative control in his character and creative insight over the company in general. He could build the company to be huge by having control and influence of how it's ran eventually leading to his stock options earning him more than his paycheck from wwe ever did.

That might have been a smart move by Punk, but it's probably not fair to assume that he'd be a good booker or creative mind, simply because he's a good performer. They involve different skill sets.

Not to mention that Punk left WWE in part because he was burned out. Helping run the booking and creative for a struggling company doesn't exactly sound like a stress free, relaxed experience.

On both of these...
From various rumors around the summer of punk thing is that it was a majority of punks doing creative wise and a lot of his building frustrations with wwe was because his ideas were getting home runs every time they used them but they would not take input from him on anything other than his character.

And being burned out, I would think being in control of his character creatively and having control over an entire roster would reinvigorate someone who is burnt out by a ccompany that does what it wants when it wants with no care for its people's opinions Jo mater how good
