PCW Onslaught Episode 18
Live from Dayton, Ohio

EDIT: As promised - http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/7456453 ... 8-pdf-665k

It's the final Onslaught before Absolution and tensions are running high. Announced for the show so far is:

- A contract signing between Zaid and Magnum Phillips for their Lone Star Championship No Holds Barred match. These men have seemingly formed an alliance to get rid of Gryphon Richard, but now that the big Canadian is out of the picture, the only thing that matters is the Lone Star Championship and the two egos that want it.

- A Triple Threat Match between Renzo Zanetti, Dean Brody, and BJ Washington. Two weeks ago Last week Adrian Dale was pinned in the triple threat involving the other team members, will Dean Brody suffer the same fate? We're approaching the 3-way tag team collision at Absolution.

- Amos Hess vs Gabriel Reece. In the Fatal-4-Way on the previous episode it was Hess that took out Reece via the Field Plow. Reece is looking to get even this time around, will he be the first to give Hess a loss?

Shane Evans and Nick Foster are in the same building just days before their world title match. Which man will make the final statement to his opponent? What is the mindset of "The British Rose" Daz as he heads into arguably the toughest challenge of his entire career? Will @Str8Shooter finally answer his interview questions? All that and more on the Absolution go-home-you're-drunk show!

Is it just me, or have a lot of people lost their interest in the fed?

It's 6 days past the due date and only 5/15 segments are in. People are posting all over the forum when they have segments which aren't in. Barely any updates. The Escalation thread I posted got like 2 replies and one of them wasn't even meant to be serious. Only 3 comments on the last two Onslaught shows. I don't know if it's a slow period for Pubtalk or for life coming out of the holidays. But if the problem is with PCW, then maybe the best thing to do is inform the mods to write your characters out so things can move forward at least.

I don't know what the status of my stuff currently is. I'm still waiting on the match to add commentary, and I passed off the segment to HFX, which admittedly we all got a late start on because of the holidays.

But in terms of having lost interest in the fed, I mean, yeah. It's hard when there's just one show a month if that and when nobody ever comments on anything to maintain any level of interest. I said as much months ago, and was shouted into the ground that it doesn't matter if there's no activity on the forum, people just want to write.

Well now, it's clear that people aren't doing their writing either, and a big part of that is because nobody bothers discussing anything. I used to post up full reviews of every show, but what was really the point of it? It didn't seem like anybody cared, and there were only a couple other people that bothered saying anything. If the mods of the forum and the people that participate in the game think that it's not a big deal that people don't contribute to discussion, then where's my motivation to do so?

I hate to say "I told you so," but I did, and everybody told me I was wrong.

I agree with Tim. I'll be honest I haven't even started the stuff I'm involved in yet. I was going to do it but I'm not even sure this show ever gets posted to be honest so I'm not sure if I should even bother.

I think stock needs to be taken about how many people are still down to be a part of the fed really and truly. If there's still enough who feel they have the passion still to keep it going, then maybe trim down the people who are out and do a quick relaunch.

The downturn in activity in the whole site has a part of it, but even before that it was an issue. When nobody reads the shows and nobody comments, it makes me wonder what it's all for? You're basically writing for yourself.

How do you even expect me to respond to this? You haven't even STARTED your shit? I mean, its not like you had a crystal ball 2 weeks ago telling you that the show wasn't going to be posted. You're making 20 posts a day in the WWE section, but fuck PCW right? Don't bother even starting your segments. Don't bother doing an interview with me that is guaranteed to bring attention to the PCW section. At least Tim wrote his stuff. If you're going to complain about people not doing this and people not doing that, at least be on the right side of the fence.

I think stock needs to be taken about how many people are still down to be a part of the fed really and truly. If there's still enough who feel they have the passion still to keep it going, then maybe trim down the people who are out and do a quick relaunch.

I had the same idea. Get rid of all the dead weight, get the roster down to a core group of dedicated guys like Stratusfied, Legend, Prophet, Daz, me and some others. Shows will get smaller and will get posted faster, hopefully that revitalizes interest in the fed and we go from there... see how long we can hold out.

You can always start a thread on those that are still interested or PM everyone that is part of the fed and ask on whether or not you should continue to book their characters :D

I'll do that. And I will also post the remnants of this Onslaught because I want to do right by the people who turned in their segments.

Do we really think a relaunch or "cutting dead weight" is really going to help, though? I guess it depends on what the goal is.

I'm going to be completely honest here: sim feds in this format are dead, and they have been since WCSF. If people want to continue to write then that's fine, and I'm going to continue to provide people the space to do so. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking that this is at all a sustainable format any more for a fed. The quality of writing remains high, but the amount of work (both writing and reading), the length of the shows, the nature of reading written out moves and everything else takes its toll. It's exacerbated by the fact that nobody discusses anything, so it feels like even more work to participate. Participation has been declining ever since Revolution VI. It's nobody's fault, that's just the way that it is.

If the goal is to continue to just give people a space to write and partake in the storylines, then by all means, keep going in the way it is. If the goal is to create a thriving community, then the entire structure of the game needs to be overhauled. And if I knew a better way to do it I'd be the first one to jump in and help, but this is the same dilemma we faced two and a half years ago when we closed the WCSF.

Settle down alright, no need to go nuts about this. This is an honest discussion and people haven't been honest with themselves about this fed for a long time. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it cures.

First off, I haven't made "20 posts a day in the WWE section", that's a ridiculous overreaction. We barely get 20 posts a week total in that forum the past month. Tim is telling you stuff you need to hear right now. We told you guys months and months ago that the current format of PCW needed to change and it wasn't sustainable long term because WE SAW IT HAPPEN FIRST HAND!! You chose not to listen, and to turn a blind eye to our advice and just shrug it off, saying that as long as people liked to write, having nobody reading shows was fine, having people not commenting was fine. Guess what?? IT'S NOT FINE! Because that's what kills feds like these when there's no community!!

You're right, I could have wrote my stuff, and yes I've forgotten about the PCW Interview questions for ages when I shouldn't have. But right now I have zero interest or passion in writing a whole bunch of stuff for 2 characters that nobody will see and takes time away from stuff that I would rather be doing. As the interest in the game goes, so does my passion for it, maybe that isn't the best, but that's the way it is for me right now.

I fucked up and im sorry to Tim, HFX and the mods. I was home from college for christmas/new years so time was spent far way from my laptop with family and friends. When I got back down here earlier in the week I got my part of the segment done but forgot about the match. Thats my fault and I apologize.

Re: PCW Onslaught Ep. 18 Preview (due 1/1/15)

Postby KaiserGlider » Jan 07, '15, 10:37 pm

Brett, you and Tim have been predicting PCW's demise forever. You were predicting it before PCW even started, when Tim was saying that it wouldn't last past 10 shows, and now we're over 20. We basically had this same discussion a few months back when Tim made that "Do you read the shows?" thread where once again, you two were the voice of negativity when pretty much every other writer thought PCW was doing fine. Sometimes I get the impression that you and Tim want PCW to fail just so you can say "Haha I told you so, I told you so but you didn't listen AND NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!" Am I overreacting about that? Sure, but that's the attitude I've gotten from the posts you and Tim have made in this thread so far.

And the thing is, you've done nothing lately to alleviate the problem. You're part of the problem. Tim suddenly stopped commenting on the shows (and upvoting people who did) a couple months ago, and I'll be surprised if there's no correlation between that and the slowing down of the fed, because Tim is the best at doing reviews. Brett stopped commenting a few shows ago as well. Yet the decrease in PCW discussion is seemingly everyone else's fault. We never had a ton of people post comments. It was a relatively small, consistent group that you two definitely used to be part of, before... something happened.

So the stand you two have taken seems a little hypocritical to me. If you were doing everything you could to fix the problem and nobody else was, I could understand. But that's not the case at all.

Brett, I brought up your activity in the WWE section (ok, not 20 posts a day) because you've made it clear that you want to revitalize that forum - and you've done a great job by making lots of posts there. Yet at the same time PCW's dying and you don't bat an eye. The interview could have added some activity, I mean look how successful my interview with Prophet was, even Hanley and Taj commented on that one. Then you announce that you haven't even started your segment because you can't be bothered. That's just disrespectful.

Like I said, the show will go up in some form or another, because I don't want to be a dick to the people who wrote their stuff.

For the record, I want to take some responsibility for recent show cards going out later than they probably should have. Sometimes it's hard for me to book stuff. I also regret not doing a review for Onslaught 15 (the one where Mark Thomas came back), because that was a really great show which should have gotten more posts than it did. Perhaps if it had, we wouldn't be here talking about this.

Now, as for PCW as a whole. Its goal was never to create a thriving community with tons of discussion. That was the WCSF's goal. You guys will probably be the first to admit that you couldn't do it, and we knew there was no way in hell PCW could do it on Pubtalk. The purpose of PCW was to give people a chance to write again, in a more relaxed/casual atmosphere where tons of discussion wasn't required to keep the fed going - having fun was. It's clear that you and Tim don't have fun unless there's a lot of discussion, and that's fine. Feel free to leave.

But contrary to what you've been saying, there's people who ARE discussing. There's people who DO read the shows. People like me, Stratusfied619, The Legend, and I'm sure there's plenty others who still want to read and write. Now you might be right, and those people might not be enough to sustain PCW. But PCW has proven you wrong before when it comes to its longevity, and it can prove you wrong again.

Yeah, I think getting rid of the dead weight will help. In fact it could be the best thing to happen to PCW in a while. Small, NXT-like shows could be the key. And if we can use the length of the shows to create a faster pace for the fed, maybe we could create momentum and really get going. Wrestlemania season is coming up, that certainly can't hurt our chances. But we'll see what happens.

Ok, I understand your frustration, but there is no need for you to use this tone. Now I'm pissed off.

KaiserGlider wrote:Sometimes I get the impression that you and Tim want PCW to fail just so you can say "Haha I told you so, I told you so but you didn't listen AND NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!" This is really, really stupid. Why would I want the fed to fail on a website that I own? Why would I have put so many hours into writing, reading and commenting on stuff if I wanted it to fail just to laugh in your face about it, even when it seemed like no one else gives a shit? Why would I STILL be writing my stuff right now? That's idiotic.

Here's the reality: it already has failed, and the game is being dragged along like a zombie right now. Sorry, that's the fact. It would seem that most people know it, but nobody seems to want to admit it. Yeah, I stopped commenting on stuff, but that was because the moderators of the game basically said it didn't matter. At that point, why should I put hours worth of effort out of what for the past few months has been my really, really, REALLY ridiculously busy life to write up essays on stuff people aren't reading or seemingly caring about?

It's not hypocritical at all. I have contributed a whole hell of a lot to this game. But at this point, I'm tired of it feeling like I have to put in so much effort for getting so little back, and sanctimonious posts like this make it clear that it's time for me to completely withdraw myself from the game altogether.

If you want to keep up the farce and try to drag this out even farther without making any sort of changes to the structure of the game then go ahead. But based on what you're saying, it's clear that neither my past efforts to help you keep this thing moving forward nor my recent attempts to try to show you that change is desperately needed have been appreciated at all, so there's no point in me trying to stay a part of it.

Just my two cents, but from my experience, the time from mid-September to New Year is always the slow periods for sim feds. Has been throughout my involvement in them. People get wrapped up in school and the holidays and whatnot, and then things tend to pick up again post Rumble in the lead up to Wrestlemania.

I should have made it clear that I don't really think that, it's just the sort of tone you and Brett have had about this situation, telling me over and over again how you guys were right all along and how I should have listened, and how this is my fault because I didn't listen to you two.

I'm sorry that I pissed you off. But you guys are so negative about PCW's future, and I just didn't want to be that way. I still think the fed can operate with a rebooted smaller roster, but if its gonna cause this much trouble and tensions then it's probably not worth it. We had a damn good run at least.
