Re: PCW Onslaught Episode 16 RESULTS

Postby Stratusfied619 » Nov 09, '14, 2:51 am

Changing of the Guard - Another familiar face pops into PCW. I got a big laugh off Kaiser's list and the number one thing listed is “Hiring the Logans”, loved the list, and Kaiser is just so obsessed with getting another rematch, but TPTB are just gonna make it very hard for him from here on out. Yea and Briggs is definitely going to bring the crazy and different match ups. With Kaiser mentioning Devine again, I just have a feeling that Devine is going to show up for at least one more match, which may end up being at PCW's biggest PPV of the year.

Reece vs Bishop - I like Bishop's weaknesses being exposed in his matches with this one being that he's not a submission wrestler as he has more of a powerhouse offense. Reese's offense ended up being his downfall for the second fall. Barry coming to cost Reese the match was an unexpected surprise. Is he still planning on helping Ace/N.P.T.? So don't know if the question on whether or not Reece can actually beat Bishop.

In Times of Need - I think Zaid is secretly plotting against Magnum and really wanting to screw him over and throw him off to get a shot at the Lone Star title.

Locked Horns - The title for this segment is perfectly name because that's exactly what Magnum and Gryphon did. Gryphon being able to get the upper hand this time and will see if Magnum will go to Zaid for help in taking him down.

The Road to Ruin - Didn't want the attack to be too extreme and also had Dylan throw it back at Valentino for mentioning the Zanettis so he'll mention Valentino's enemy Zaid. I hope it comes across that Dylan doesn't want to be compared to Valentino and thinks that he's superior than Johnny with the “build gate” comment.

Wrong Turn - Amos isn't having much luck with having anyone join him and his crusade of him “saving” them. This should be a very fun rivalry between the two of them with Daz going on a downward spiral and Amos moving on up in the ranks. I wonder if Daz can finally get back on his feet or if Amos will keep it going or if Daz is going to stop Amos' momentum.

Gathering of the Clouds - Two teams wanting to face NRC and had fun having both teams state their case on why they're number one contenders for the title. J-Team wanting a rematch and Zanettis believing they earned their spot now and putting Melissa on the spot. Plus a bonus is sparking Melissa and Roxanne's rivalry.

Game of Champions + Match - Drake does it again, picking up another win by either count out or when someone is not 100% in the match. Funny how he builds up these non names only to quickly beat them.

Fallout- Nice little interview from Alexa speaking about Andrew and Shane's history and not wanting to reveal on whether or not Logan's career is actually over.

Stars Aligned - Looks like Haynes and Bishop are going to go off and have a feud together as I thought Haynes and Cavanah were gonna pick up where they left off.

Main Event - That main event was something alright with old Mafia members, Foster and Thomas shaking hands. Evans not wanting Foster's help and stealing a victory. Evans is a changed man and wanting that title but with Alexa's interview I have a feeling that Logan will not allow Evans to win the title. I think that Alexa has something planned cause I think she's the brains behind the Logans.

Re: PCW Onslaught Episode 16 RESULTS

Changing of the guard – LOL, the Badlands are in South Dakota, not South Carolina. That’s humorous. Briggs is a brilliant man to run PCW going forward. I imagine there will be plenty of hilarity to ensue. It should be a lot of fun. I’m so excited to have Mark Thomas back. Still on the very short list of my favorite characters to read and I’m really excited about this. I have to say the content of Kaiser’s portion of this segment was definitely high quality. I liked how all three men were drawn into their history together and added tension throughout. My only thought is it felt like a completely different segment. I think it would have been better, later in the show as a segment in Briggs’ office or something, but definitely a good segment nonetheless.

Reece vs Bishop – I just want to say this as it seems the feud with Bishop is drawing to a close. I had a blast writing with Brett and he definitely did a great job. I hope he feels the same. It was definitely a great feud and I hope everyone enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to writing with the Disciples again if that’s indeed where this is headed.

Times of Need – Zaid calling Magnum Phillips Maggie may be the funniest thing I’ve read a guy saying in PCW. I can just imagine a guy like Magnum’s face when he says that. This was a really good promo and a lot of fun to read. My only suggestion is Magnum seemed a lot less Texan in this promo than he has in the past. It was a bit of a break in character.

Locked Horns – Nice interaction here. I liked all the action and it definitely feels like the right time for Magnum to run into a different kind of challenge with Richard being more his physical equal and that moment of him falling out of the ring was great.

Road to Ruin – Nice promo and I’ll be interested in seeing where this one goes. Both of these guys are pretty similar and that should lead to a good entertaining feud between Kyle and Valentino. I also like how the intensity and violence get ratcheted up a notch every week. Should be fun by PPV time to see what they come up with.

Wrong Turn – Hess is always awesome to read. And this promo may be my favorite of his in a while. Loved the “With Hess All things are possible” line. I liked the bit with Daz remaining silent and then the brutal assault taken was fantastically written. Great job with this entire promo.

Gathering of the Clouds – Nice promo here as well. The tag team division definitely looks like it is heating up which can only be a good thing. I think tag team wrestling is at it’s best when it has a lot of chaos which is exactly what we’ve got here.

Game of Champions – Nice promo by Drake Bernard and I definitely think this PCW incarnation of Bernard is a step above the WCSF version so that’s great. I just can’t wait to get him in a feud that we can really judge what he’s got.

Bernard vs some jobber – It’s time for him to move on to more exciting things.

Fallout – A bit of a brief interlude here and doesn’t do a lot to further the storyline, but does keep Logan in the forefront of our minds so there’s that.

Stars Aligned – Looking forward to seeing how this feud develops and from what I’ve seen I like Haynes, I just want to see a lot more.

Foster/Evans vs Thomas/Cavanah – First, I’ll say I like the idea of making the first main event of Briggs’ tenure a “strange bedfellows” match. It’s a great concept to fit in with his personality. Great booking with that decision. The action was great and told that story well. We got a good taste of some matchups that it didn’t seem we’d see at this stage, especially a Thomas/Foster encounter. I thought that was really well written. I would have liked to see Mark Thomas pick up the win in his first action, but I guess I’ll settle for this result.

I would also like to add, I'd like to see a few more matches and even interferences and unclean matches on the card. The show paces out better when there's a mix of matches and segments. This show read like one unending segment which got a little boring and didn't really progress things the way a few more matches would have.

Changing of the Guard: Fun segment all around, from both a writing and reading standpoint. Johnny Briggs is best for business. This was the big surprise of the show and hopefully it delivered on that front as well.

I was looking forward to reading the backstage segment. Oh well.

2 Out of 3 Falls Match: Okay, here we go. Looking forward to this bad boy. The thing I like about this episode is that there’s basically only two matches (this one and the main event) so it’s easy to get into all the action and read it without getting worn out by a lesser match. Gonna review this thing fall by fall.

Fall #1: Good start to the match, and I liked how the commentators referenced Reece’s promo from the week before when Reece said that he would use his mistakes to grow as a competitor. The Pounce? Shades of Monty Brown there. I do like how the styles of both men were described here. Reece with the quickness and flashy moves, and Orion with more of a power game.

Fall #2: Awesome start to round two with the Hurricarana to the outside by Reece. It actually felt a bit unrealistic for Bishop to kick out of that move so soon after getting pinned by Reece’s finisher in Fall #1. I would have had the commentators play up how Bishop knew he couldn’t afford to lose another fall, so he desperately used all of his strength to kick out. Moving on, great way to shift the advantage back to Bishop with the Flapjack to the steps. Of course Bishop had to even out the score at 1-1, now let’s move on to…

Fall #3: Reece has really stolen the show in this match, even though Orion wins at the end. That’s kind of a cool dynamic that makes both guys look good. I bet nobody expected Barry to cost Reece the match here! We were gonna do something between Barry and Ace at first, but with Ace no-showing the last two shows I decided to move Barry to a better opponent because he deserves it. Overall, this was a great 2/3 Falls Match that felt like the feud-ender between Reece and Bishop.

I only have two minor criticisms with this match. First, the show took place in Reece’s hometown (Badlands, yes I confused which state it was in, lol), but the hometown advantage wasn’t really played up. Second, it ended a bit abruptly. I would have liked to see a line or two describing Reece and Bishop’s reactions after Bishop got the pinfall. Like I said, minor critiques.

In Times of Need: Oh fuck yes, Maggie and Zaid! These guys are always gold together. Magnum may not need Zaid’s help now, but after the next segment he may change his mind…

Locked Horns: Somebody gonna get they ass kicked, somebody gonna get they wig split. Just a good old fashioned slugfest here, not quite Gabriel Reece’s cup of tea but still damn effective. Alex’s line “Magnum Phillips has finally met his match” is basically the perfect thing to say here. Gryphon’s size makes him the perfect foe for Magnum, and you gotta wonder if Gryphon will be the ONE. Will be interesting to see if this segment affects the Magnum/Zaid relationship.

The Road to Ruin: It’s good to see this feud really coming together after the slow burn that was built up from Resurgence to Genocide. It seems as though Dylan has the upper hand for now, we’ll see how long that will last.

Wrong Turn: Aaaand it’s Hess/Daz time. I like how Daz didn’t say anything, as opposed to vocally telling Hess to fuck off. It really sells the state Daz is in while still moving the story along. Daz is definitely at his most vulnerable, which is the worst time to be going up against Amos Hess (is there a good time?). This should be interesting moving forward.

I’ll echo The Legend’s comment about the promofest on this show. One of the matches wasn’t turned in, but I do see the point he’s making.

Gathering of the Clouds: Not sure about the “undefeated for 10 months” line because while it is technically true, in PCW time it’s only been about 2-3 months since the Oblivion PPV where they won the titles. I did love the “God was on our side” line though, haha. The interaction between Roxanne and Melissa makes me want that future 6-person tag match we’ve been talking about. Renzo suddenly breaking up the negotiations, vintage Renzo! Great brawl to end this one, even the ladies got it on. One thing I’ve noticed with Stratusfied619’s writing is that sometimes you tend to write in big paragraphs. Just a suggestion, but I recommend dividing your paragraphs up a little bit so they’re easier to get through. HOLY SHIT, Quintuple Suplex? What the fuck!? I didn’t see that coming, lol. The other big takeaway from this segment for me was how dominant NRC were built up to be by the commentators. It does make you question if any team in PCW can take the belts off NRC.

Game of Champions: Holy shit, Bernard incorporating “It’s Munging Time!” into his entrance may be the best thing ever. I think the overwhelming boos for Bernard as soon as his music starts up may be a bit unrealistic, because he hasn’t really done anything that despicable yet. Maybe even for Dan Morrison too, because he’s relatively new to the PCW fans. I could picture a lot of people hating Dan Morrison, but maybe describe it as “more than half the fans” or something like that. Anyway, on to the match. A match I’ve looked forward to reading for a long time.

Drake Bernard vs “The Mexican Sensation” Aristeo Naolin, Jr: Okay, just to warn you it might take me a couple sit-downs to get through this beast. I’m prepared to pull an all-nighter! I am! We already have an electric atmosphere right off the bat, with the crowd chanting “Same Old Shit!” at these two competitors. A masterful start to the match - as soon as the bell rings Bernard attempts to play mind games by sitting on the top turnbuckle. This incredible maneuver causes Aristeo to actually fall out of the ring and then go through the announce table. Bernard continues to sit on the top turnbuckle as if he used no effort at all. As Aristeo attempts to recover in the ruins of the announce table, the referee starts to count him out. He gets to a count of five as the crowd starts booing Aristeo Naolin, realizing what a knob he is compared to the great Drake Bernard. Dan Morrison stands near the apron of the ring, filling his client’s ears with words of wisdom said to be passed down through generations of the Morrison family. At last, Aristeo gets back in the ring and ties up with Bernard. The two go back-and-forth for another 23 pages of awesomeness that would make even Daz jealous, until at last Bernard manages to knock Aristeo out of the ring and wins by count-out. Bernard has now beaten an 18-time world champion, and it’s reasonable to assume that Nick Foster may be next. See, now this is called a review!

Fallout: Well written segment, to the surprise of no one. Did Evans succeed in ending Andrew's career? Only time will tell.

Stars Aligned: Looking forward to this Haynes promo. This “Man of the people” approach is cool, and a good way to establish Haynes as a notable babyface. The Orion interruption seemed to come a little too quickly, I would have liked to see Haynes talk a bit more to expand his character. Both of these guys, Haynes and Bishop are red-hot right now coming off of their last feuds, so it should be interesting to see how this one develops.

Evans/Foster vs. Kaiser/Thomas: Four men, six world titles between them. In that sense this is the most loaded Onslaught match we’ve had so far, so let’s get down to business. What an entrance for Thomas! Kaiser and Foster squaring off at first? I dig it. Great way to tag in Thomas, lol. Looks like Prophet started this match off, top shout mate. Things are getting even better with this Thomas vs. Foster showdown. I’m interested to see how this plays out. Evans breaking things up before a second round of Thomas/Foster, that was great. Haha, Evans literally “shooing” Foster out of the ring is hilarious. This match has been really fun so far. BTW, Str8shooter had a lot to do during this show, lol. Thomas throwing Evans into Kaiser? I can just picture Johnny Briggs sitting in his office backstage, enjoying the hell out of his creation.

And now it’s Kaiser vs. Evans revisited! “YOU BOTH SUCK” chant! Jesus this match is a ton of fun. I’ll tell you what, Cavanah probably isn’t used to being on the receiving end of a low blow. FCC Outa Nowhere to end it and Evans standing tall to end the show. He be a' comin’ for that world title!

This show felt pretty easy to get through. I like that in a show.
