And here.... we.... go.
Pick Your Poison: Two huge Pay-Per-View quality matches announced for this episode, and I cannot fucking wait to read them both. PCW baby! And nobody predicted that Magnum would pick Gryphon to be Omega's opponent! Suck it guys!
13: HardcoreLegend pitched the idea of us doing something on this show to play up the fact that this is the unlucky 13th episode of Onslaught. I considered booking something where a heel is trying to avoid a babyface he's feuding with because he's superstitious. But I didn't want to make one of the heels look week, so I did it with Master and Sato instead, because they're joke characters and have nothing to lose. Another fun segment here; Sato giving the Master good-luck items to help him in his match. Not sure if that will help.
I let SKS write this segment, cause why the fuck not. He's a MASTERMARK.
Ace's Psycho Analysis Segments: Here's the backstory of how this came about. Ace PM'ed me wanting to expand Ace's character and do something to flesh him out. (I always appreciate that btw, feel free to PM me whenever you want). So Ace has this idea of having Ace (the character) get evaluated by a doctor, who tells Ace that he has D.I.D. I was interested to see the emergence of this "NPT" character. He wouldn't tell us what NPT stood for, so it will be interesting to see that explained somewhere down the road. The writing here was good for sure. The original segment Ace sent me was in my opinion, too long, so I suggested that we split it up into Parts One and Two that would happen at different times throughout the show. There will be more eyeballs on Ace and N.P.T from now on, that's for sure.
Evans vs. Bishop: Alrighty then, first match of the night. Here we go. I'm not sure why but "as he bobs his way down the aisle" while singing his theme had me chuckling. Explosive start to this match, which suits Evan's character quite well. I liked the commentators playing up the fact that this is Shane's first match in a long time, and the spot where Evans was unable to lift the 275 pound Bishop and suplex him into the ring. Don't know about Bishop being 275 pounds of all muscle, seems to me he's more like 270 pounds of muscle and 5 pounds of ego! Er... sorry, bad joke. Anyway. is the Galaxy Slam the Black Hole Slam? Seems like it is; sweet if that's true. Interesting tribute to Rage Mishima with that Orochi Revolver. Really solid match here, I'm almost disappointed that it ended the way it did, even though I booked it that way! haha. KENDO STICK TIME! Evans sure went to town on Bishop and I know I marked out for it.
Daredevil's Due: I'm assuming Reece had some kind of device attached to his head that allowed him to be heard over the PA system without using a mic. Good promo here that highlighted Reece's personality. Btw I believe Kaiser Cavanah was the first to use "bitch-up" (via guest commentary during the Golden Gauntlet), just putting that out there to stroke my ego
Looking forward to Reece/Cryin' Orion at Genocide for sure.
Rose Rejected: Interesting twist from the booking mind of Daz. PCW management trying to protect their investment. I'm not sure if this segment would have worked better with Burke being there instead of Hypeman after all. At the end of the day the point came across, so it works.
Sealing the Deal HardcoreLegend suggested the idea of the first ever PCW wedding. It hasn't been that long since Gia and Johnny V had problems, but this is professional wrestling so what the hell. The story here is that Johnny V is on a huge roll and he's super happy and so they're gonna get married. And I have a feeling Zaid won't be invited. Loved the bottle of champagne bit.
Menace To Society: Reference to one of Evan's signature moves in the title there, the Menace to Society DDT that has scrambled Cavanah's head on more than one merry occasion. Strong words between these two. No surprise that Andrew's line about how Evans "freaking
lost it" set him off. Nothing like a good 'ole backstage brawl!
Dylan Kyle vs. Zanetti Family: Aw yeah. Been looking forward to seeing the Zanetti Family in action, so I'm pumped for this one. Nice to see the FAT MAN reprise his role from the promos, haha. Great entrance by the Zanettis!
"He had two pistols in his holsters know as the Brothers Comeau and left them backstage, which I really can't blame him, 'cause they probably would have jammed." sweet line. I realize I made a mistake in putting the "red bell" image earlier in the match than it should have been. That explains why I was initially confused when Mikaleh used the belt and there was no DQ.
As in the "Target Acquired" segment later on, I like how Mikaleh is played up as the leader of the family while Renzo is the underboss who tends to be more reckless. Characterization like that helps when its a tag team and you have to know both characters. Hey, a mention of the Grinch! Nice. Falcon punch!
I have mixed thoughts on the finish. On one hand, Roxanne was able to come off as an evil bitch, and Dylan getting distracted when she said
"I love you" shows that he still cares for her and their breakup has affected him negatively. On the other hand, I think the Zanetti Family should be able to win a 2-on-1 Handicap Match without needing a distraction from Roxanne. Dylan can still look good in putting up a lionhearted fight, but in the end the odds should be too much for him to overcome and he should take a clean loss to the tag team. That's just my opinion though. The Zanettis are still badass and this was a pretty good match; really enjoyed their debut. Comeaus vs. Zanettis should be a blast. Boy, Ali didn't get to write much on this show did he?
Rolling in Style: I pitched an idea to PhenomRocks about Drake Bernard hiring a bodyguard to help him win matches, just so he has something to separate him from other midcard heels. He then suggested that Bernard hires a manager because he thought that would work better than a bodyguard. I agreed, and we came up with Dan Morrison coming back to manage Bernard. I hope it works out for the best. I would probably agree with the other guys that "mcfaggots" was a bit unnecessary, if only because I know ShaneOfan hates the F word.
The Master vs Spencer Miller: I think in the description I wrote something like "Master comes down to the ring carrying his good-luck items" but I probably should have changed it to "Master is already in the ring" just to play the jobberness up more
. I was surprised when Master kicked out of the Mill Shot Kill Shot, but then I went back and realized that Miller broke up the count, haha. Ah and there's the debut of the Koji Clutch. SKS told me that was going to be added to Miller's moveset. Good way to end the match.
War of Attrition: Sorry but I changed the name of this segment so that the announcement of the I Quit Match could be more of a surprise for certain people. Hope y'all don't mind. "Take my money!", Brett? Sure, I'll take your money. I'm really loving the characterization of Daz here. Spencer Miller has taken him to a place he's never been before, in addition to his losses at Escalation and Oblivion, and now Hypeman telling him he's not allowed in the building, it's all having an effect on Daz. Good promo by Daz setting up a colossal match at Genocide. Miller/Daz II, I Quit Match!
Gunning For the Gold: ShaneOfan wanted something simple for these guys this week, so here's a contract signing segment. LOL, so many good jabs at Melissa Chambers here. Good back-and-forth segment guys. J Team looking strong by laying out the tag team champions, will the same happen at Genocide?
Doomsday Clock: Tick tock. He's a 'comin!
Omega vs. Gryphon Richard: Another match I was looking forward to reading on this show. Fist off I'm a big fan of the "I want it all, I want it now!" thing that begins Gryphon's entrance. Stuff like that always makes people stand out so I'm all for it. Great start with Omega not having his usual intensity.
"Magnum broke Omega and he didn’t have to double-team him through a table to do so." Another good commentary line there. Goddamn, Gryphon calling Omega a bitch! That's gotta light a fire under the Buffalo's ass. And yup, we're switching to another gear in this match-up now. Really good finish, countering the Lone-Wolf Bite into the Evisceration.
The Lion & and Mosquito: HFX mentioned that the feud between Gryphon and Zaid is like a fight between a lion and a mosquito, so there's my segment title. Zaid is great. lol. Some really good lines in his promos, as always. Only criticism I have is that last big paragraph in Zaid's promo could have been split into two paragraphs because it was a bit long. Looking forward to this match at Genocide and how Gryphon and Zaid will deal with each other.
Jailbreak Awaits: Hell of a promo by Nick. We'll see if he still thinks he's going to hurt Cavanah after the end of this show... hehehehe. Magnum making the statement that he's going to knock Foster's ass out. Oooh! Champion vs. Champion baby! By the way, holy fuck Keith Hypeman has been all over this show.
Damn!
Gauntlet Match: Sears wanting to end the first match quickly made for some good storytelling. Big fan of Sear's running knee strike finisher. Loved Barry tossing away the kneepad at the start of the second match, that was perfect. I hope Barry (and Hess) yell "repent!" every time they have somebody in a submission hold, like Chris Jericho's "ASK HIM!"
Great spot with Sears hitting the Love Hurts out of nowhere, but unable to put Barry away with it because he didn't have the kneepad. Really good match here, very well-written. I'm really impressed with BSM's writing abilities.
Btw, saucernips has been inactive lately. BSM covered the Sears vs. Disciples Gauntlet match for him this week, and he wrote Sears vs. Knight on Onslaught 12 as well. It would really suck if saucernips disappeared because this Sears/Hess story has a ton of potential.
The Secret: Yeah, we're going for the slow-burn on this storyline and having the match at Genocide be more about "the secret". Hess delivers a good promo as always. One thing I would have liked to see is some members of the crowd expressing their displeasure when Hess says he won't reveal the secret to them yet. Sears is the good guy, but I would think that even his supporters must be curious to find out what the secret is, and wouldn't appreciate Hess denying them that knowledge.
Broken Mirror: Nice reference to the title of the segment at the start. The descriptions of Dylan at the beginning were very well done, you can see the recent events of his life taking a toll on him mentally and a darkness growing in his mind. The way Johnny V delivered his lines was perfect. He's truly happy but you know it's rubbing Dylan the wrong way. The pat on the (sore) back was a great touch, as was Dylan getting tense. "They soon part ways before anything goes down however" was an interesting line that makes you wonder what
could have possibly gone down if tensions ran a little higher. I'm very happy with this segment. Good job guys.
Target Acquired: (I read this before the Handicap Match btw). Nice segment here. I'm digging the Zanetti Family a lot - the manila folder and the black-and-white photographs of their victims really set the tone for how dangerous these guys are. Also a nice callback to their vignettes before they debuted. From Mikaleh telling Renzo to back off and sit down and being the voice of reason here, I'm, assuming he's the leader of the group/family. It's nice to see that get established. I get the feeling that Renzo is the one who just wants to fuck people up, while Mikaleh is the calm and calculating one that knows when to pick his spots.
Foster vs. Magnum: There's been a lot of matches on this show I have looked forward to reading, but this one should be straight-up awesome. LET'S GET PHYSICAL, PHYSICAL! I loved the exchange of punches where both men were smiling and then Foster gained the upper hand. Then Foster firing himself and the crowd up, ready to hit the big suicide dive, only to have Magnum go for the steel chair. That bastard Cavanah, knocking Foster out with the brass knuckles. This is a big win for Magnum - he now gets to say that he beat the so-called "real" PCW champion, so the Lone Star Champion is the true champion. Good job guys, I bet both of you were looking forward to writing this match, and I couldn't wait to get the opportunity to book it.
King of the Mountain: I wanted to keep Kaiser Cavanah's presence on this show to a minimum because he had a lot of segments on the last show, and I've been concentrating on my segment for the next Onslaught... Foster now has a bad leg heading into Jailbreak, and you gotta figure that's going to factor into the story of the match.
Awesome show everyone! Possibly the best Onslaught since Episode 10 at least. I like to think of Genocide as Resurgence on steroids.
