Phoenix Fray - Normally battle royales just seem like jumbled ways to get people on to a ppv card, but given that we've got so many new characters who haven't had time to establish themselves yet, I think it's a good decision. I like that Bishop was the one to announce it too, his new character is a riot. I just hope that with him and Jay Cruz on the roster with slightly similar gimmicks, they're able to maintain their own unique traits. Reece and Sears getting involved too should be good, I think these are quite possibly the three most promising new characters on the roster right now so I'm already looking forward to that one.
Disciples vs. NRC/Kid Spartan - Solid match here, but I'm wondering what the interactions with Hess and Spartan will be at Resurgence. Seems like it should be a one-sided contest and that it's just a stopgap before Hess moves on to something bigger and better afterwards (Nick Foster perhaps?) but it's hard to say. The Disciples/NRC feud has built pretty well, so I'm looking forward to seeing them in a full-on encounter.
Road to Resurgence: Nick Foster - Awesome, awesome segment, you can just imagine how this would come off in a video package. Classic stuff to build up the babyface. When you get the whole history lesson in front of you, and images of Devine/Thomas/Evans all holding world titles, it gives you a whole new appreciation for a) just how incredible the Mafia stable was and b) the kind of road Foster has taken to finally get to this point. To think that we had a faction where all four members could potentially be world champions is just unreal.
Man to Real Man - Interesting to see Johnny finally exercising some restraint. Nice character shift there, shows he's learned his lesson since losing Gia. Zaid is hilarious, that promo was golden. I like how the announcers hinted that Zaid has the advantage in a street fight situation. Looking forward to the way this feud resolves; nothing left for these two at this point other than to have the final match.
Gryphon vs. Ace - "You don't want to play mind games with Ace. Mainly because his mind is empty." OK, that was fucking great
. What Ace has done with his character so well that a lot of newer writers (and even older writers) often don't do is establish his character's personality in the actual action of the match. We can see from everything Ace does that he's clearly demented, and the whole bit about his eyes losing color was excellent. I think that's actually something HFX can improve with for Gryphon, getting the character's personalty across more when he's actually involved in a match. The Anthony Carriere sucks eggs thing... I'm guessing that wasn't HFX who wrote that in? Really good showing for both guys, but it was important for Gryphon to get the win going into a match against the much more seasoned Logan.
Next in Line - Ha, this was a fun segment. "You haven't accomplished anything AT ALL!" The Comeaus are usually a nice breath of fresh air, especially when positioned around other feuds that are much more serious in nature. Looking forward to this encounter, and I honestly have no idea who's going to win this one. I guess it depends on who's winning the tag title match, and I really don't know who to pick or that one either.
Kaiser's digging that Let's Get Physical song lately, I see
Between a rock and a hard place - I wrote the interview portion of this before I left for my trip, so I kind of had to refamiliarize myself with what the segment was all about before reading what HFX got down, haha. I know SKS says it's clear that the Logans haven't changed, and I can see why it would come off that way, but I think it's also important to note that Andrew's ill will so far has been specifically directed toward the fans, and not toward any of the other wrestlers. There's still a chance he'll show something at Resurgence. Of course, maybe he's also still a mega heel and this is just building tension
I probably would have written something different at the end for Andrew than HFX put down there, but I know how hard it is to write dialogue for someone else's character. I wouldn't have had Andrew run down Gryphon like that -- really, I don't think Andrew has any beef with Gryphon at all. The "I will put you in your place" was a bit much. But the brawl with Omega was really well done.
Zanetti family - Is this a new Mafia? Interested in seeing these people debut.
Dylan Kyle vs. The Master - With the Master involved, we know where this one is heading
. Six inch heels for Roxanne? Good lord, how does she walk?! haha. Kind of cool to see the Master getting frustrated with losses, so resorting to more desperate measures. Makes sense. Really good action for Dylan Kyle, who doesn't seem to have lost a beat. I liked the interaction with Cruz there, and for a moment I really thought Cruz was going to cost Kyle the match and The Master was going to get his first victory. The post match challenge was done nicely. Looking forward to seeing Jay Cruz's first match. Hopefully DanielsonTHAGOAT hasn't disappeared on us.
A Meeting in Shadows - Lmao @ Kaiser's description of Miller. Hilarious. The shadows bit was rather bizarre. Not sure Miller needs to add a mysterious approach to his character when he's already added the vicious streak; don't want to venture into "brooding darkness" territory, that rarely works out well. But I did like the hint that Miller could potentially be the next challenger for Kaiser. Adds a new element to them teaming together and the storyline for the main event.
Society of Suck - Ha, I didn't know this was going to be the title of the segment. Anyway, this stuff with Magnum was basically all filler after him beating Buck last week. What will Magnum be doing at Resurgence? Well, you'll have to wait and find out! But, I definitely did take some small pleasure in writing the squash of JLO... haha.
Cream of the Crap III - Lmao @ master and Sato entering the Phoenix Fray. That should be a hoot. Ace is quite a bizarre dude.
Main Even - I just realized, it seems like we've been seeing rather little of Kaiser and Daz lately, which is odd considering they're probably the two biggest stars in the fed, haha. But nonetheless, this main event should be great.
I see Daz has stolen the LOGAN LYRIC LOGO idea
The more the merrier! I dig the dissension between Miller and Kaiser to start things off, fun way to get us rolling. Odd to me that Miller would be the one to avoid Daz here. I think after the feud they've had so far, Miller would be eager to prove himself, while Kaiser would be more likely to want to avoid Foster. Minor quip though. Great action between Kaiser and Daz, they work quite well together. As the match is progressing here, I definitely like the story building with Daz and Miller, Miller getting in his head at every opportunity. Glad that the story isn't that Miller is afraid to Daz, but is rather picking his spots. Love the double crossbody spot, and the fact that Kaiser and Daz are STILL being portrayed as total equals. Makes them both look amazing.
The end of the match was great. Miller leaving set Daz up to leave the ring and fall into Miller's clutches, and it allowed Foster the opportunity to get a pinfall on the champion. Huge moment there for Foster. Unfortunately for him, it probably means he's losing the match at Resurgence, but that was a hell of a moment, and the announcers sold it perfectly.
End of the Road - Absolutely vicious assault by Cavanah. "Here's to another 8 years!" Brutal, yet awesome. Amazing close to the segment too. At first, the numerous chair shots and Foster getting back up seemed a little sily, but the way it culminated with the fans chanting, and Foster saying "Miller and you didn't understand, but THEY do" that was freaking awesome. Epic way to end the show, and after that beat down it's really hard to predict who's going to walk away champion. Can't wait for that encounter.
Awesome show guys, I think everything is set up really well for the PPV. Here are a few of my big winners for this show:
1. Nick Foster. Dude just looks like an absolute badass right now. Whether or not he beats Cavanah at the PPV, he's coming away looking like a bona fide superstar and it's fantastic.
2. Comeaus/J-Team. Fun feud that isn't getting much attention but has been a good read and will likely produce an entertaining match at the PPV.
3. Kaiser Cavanah. He hasn't been as much of a focus on recent shows, but that final segment sent a huge message. There's a reason this guy is the champion, and why he has a right to be considered the very best PCW has to offer. Tremendous stuff.
