Alright! Let's do this PCW OOOO YEA
Surprised to see Zaid and Valentino starting off the show. I like that we're not getting any answers to the whole Gia deal yet. Gia not being there really gives Johnny no reason to hold back, which we definitely see in this segment. Having them get physical backstage is a nice way to build up to a street fight, which I think is going to be a perfect way to cap off this feud. But yeah, I like that they couldn't even contain themselves until the official start of the show, and it's nice to see them moving on to something new in the feud beyond just some misunderstanding involving Gia. There's real heat here.
Pure Bred Truth - I think the upcoming stuff with Andrew is going to be some of the most challenging writing I've had in a sim fed, so I'm glad that based on the first few comments so far, it's being received well. The question over these next few weeks is going to be whether or not Andrew is really a changed man, but also: does it really matter? I'm stoked to have a PPV match with HFX too, this was the first time we'd ever so much as written a segment together, let alone a PPV program.
I texted YES to the number but didn't get a response
Matt Sears vs. The Master - Well with the Master being involved, I think we all know how this is gonna go
DazDP yoga... lmao. This is an interesting decision here, to have a mid-match promo, but I like it a lot. We get a chance to learn more about the new character, and we all know Master is going to get squashed anyway. Lmao @ the "do you mind" bit. The knee pad bit was great. I really liked this a lot - it's certainly unique and probably isn't going to sit well with everyone reading, but IMO it sets the characters apart right off the bat here for their in-ring debut. Plus, this was just really well-written. I see a lot of potential here.
You Don't Belong Here Who does Omega think he is anyway?
JJ vs. Calvin - Well last week we saw BJ and Carter go at it, so we'll see how the other half fares now. Fun twist to have the partners on commentary together. I wasn't initially into this feud, but I think this match especially has helped to give it some added interest. Having the guys on commentary was a great decision as it allows us to get to know the characters better. The action of the match was solid as well, and we get a glimpse of the fact that the J Team will do anything it takes to pick up a win. Love the "FINISH HIM" bit at the end, and the Achievement Unlocked thing. The Comeaus are a really fun team, I've warmed up to them a lot.
Anon - Again, gonna have to reserve judgment until I see the guy in person. Definitely bizarre, and the whole "internet culture" gimmick could be something that could either flop or be really entertaining. We'll find out soon enough I suppose, but Rider Cutting is certainly doing enough to keep me intrigued.
Bad For Business - I liked this a lot. Like John said, it doesn't do a TON to further any storylines, but its inclusion sells the Logan return as being a really big deal, especially when the champion is clearly worried about it. However, the real story here is the final bits of the segment, where Kaiser implies that Burke doesn't believe Foster can beat him, and Burke doesn't deny it. I hope that comes back into play later in the feud, because that was a really interesting inclusion and I don't want to see that get swept under the rug.
Imma Let You Finish - Two hotly anticipated debuts, for sure. Since these are new characters, I'll spend a bit of time on this one. First, I think this is the most Dylan Kyle has impressed me in a promo so far. Kyle was a good character in WCSF, but there was always something missing from him that showed me he had the potential to be a great one. I think now, his character comes off a little less gimmicky but at the same time, he appears to have developed a lot more depth. I like the explanation of the scars on his face too -- now that Dylan has some battle scars of his own, that gives him a bit of history and a reason to fight harder. I'm hoping Kyle can hold on to that balance of fun and intensity that he displayed here, because that could make a really good face character. Lean too far one way or the other, and I think he risks being another face in the crowd.
Now as for Jay Cruz, a brand new character I've been looking forward to, and a brand new writer as well, so welcome Danielson. And for a first promo, it was really pretty good. We got an idea right off the bat of the kind of guy that Cruz is (wealthy, arrogant, probably the kind of guy who throws money at a problem to make it go away). There were a few things I'd suggest: for one, he doesn't need to come right out and tell people that he's a wealthy kid from Georgia. The types of things he says, his appearance, his actions should tell us that. The mahogany desk thing is a great example of how to do that, as well as his designer brand clothing. That's more subtle, and more effective as well. The painters bit was great too. I think we've got a hip hop Ric Flair character here haha.
Also, one final thing, we didn't really get a whole lot of interaction between Kyle and Cruz, and we don't really know why Cruz interrupted this promo in the first place. So I'm hoping we can get a bit more of that next week... basically Kyle came out and said his thing, and then Cruz did the same. Might be a good idea for Stratusfied to make a PCW youtube thing to respond to Cruz. Just an idea.
Magnum stuff - Shame that Buck disappeared and it all came to this, but I think Magnums got some good stuff ahead of him.
The Lord's Work - Good segment, but it's a shame the match wasn't handed in... would have liked to have seen more of the Spartan.
A Star is Born - Loved this. Orion having the camera man feel his abs and all that other stuff.. fantastic. Orion is clearly overcompensating for something with this new attitude
. The whole "star/constellation/orion" bit is great. And despite us having a guy like Jay Cruz now who has a similar attitude, I think Bishop takes it in a completely different direction -- the whole narcissistic bit has some great potential and could lead to some great showmanship in the ring.
Sato vs. Ace- Welp, here comes a win for Ace! haha. Ace is definitely an odd dude. It would seem that his gimmick is going to be some kind of unbalanced nutjob? Well hey, that's certainly something we don't have on the roster, so good on Ace for picking a gimmick to set his character apart. The whole "punches having no effect" thing might have bothered me a bit if this wasn't a clear squash match, but for these purposes it was a good way to get his character across. Ace coming back "to life" after the match was over was definitely interesting. Gotta admit, I'm intrigued.
Looking to Impress - I like the Bishop/Reece pairing... two veteran writers with new characters, and it seems like a natural combination for the characters, especially with Bishop's new attitude. Orion was hilarious in this segment. ": Why don’t you leave the poor man’s Evel Kneivel and come with me. Unlike this fool, I don’t need training wheels baby… " hahahhaha, legitimately loled at that. But yeah, fun segment. I think the personalities these guys have, as well as their potential ability as showmen in the ring, would make this a fun feud. If there's a match at Resurgence, I hope it extends beyond that, because it'd be a good starter feud for both of these characters that I think would be quite entertaining. The repackaging of Bishop has already done him wonders.
Cream of the Crap - PCW WILL SOON BE RULED BY THE MASTER!
Main Event Time - Another segment where a high-profile star comments on the Logans -- I dig it. But most of all, this just put Foster over as a babyface who's ready to kick some ass. Good way to lead into the main event.
Miller vs. Foster - I think everyone knew Kaiser was going to get involved in this one, but that didn't take away from it at all. Miller as the Seahawks in Denver... ooo damn. I liked the characterization of these two as being evenly matched. I think that does a lot for Miller in particular, who coming into PCW was probably just slightly under Foster on the ladder, and he's really worked his way up so far. Some solid back and forth action. The bit with the chair was nicely done to put across Miller's character. The MSKS counter into the Crossface was sick. The announcers also did a nice job at one point of putting over the importance a win would have for Miller. In general, the match did the same thing their Oblivion encounter did: really sell both guys as tough competitors. This is especially important for Miller, who needs to be looked at as being believably able to challenge Daz if he's going to be facing him in a PPV match. I like that it ended with Miller actually picking up the victory thanks to Kaiser, rather than Kaiser interfering and ending the match with a DQ. Important result for Miller, and it takes nothing away from Foster.
The Board is set - Was wondering when we were gonna finally see Daz! Great closing brawl here, and I love that Daz is the one to get to announce the big tag match for next week. That's gonna be immense: basically the four biggest names we've had in the first ten PCW shows in the same match. Can't wait for that one. Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel... bahahaha yesssss.
Great show guys. Aside from a couple nitpicky things here and there, once again I had overwhelmingly positive comments, and I usually tend to be one of the more critical commenters. But we've got a pretty high level of writing in the fed right now which ya'll should be proud of.
Looking forward to seeing where this all goes!
My winners for the week:
1. Matt Sears. Really solid first match, good writing, good character progression. Looking forward to more from him.
2. Orion Bishop. Repackaging has already made a huge difference.
3. Dylan Kyle. I think he already appears to be better than ever, now the question is just how he'll progress over time. Really nice re-debut promo for him, looking forward to seeing more.
