Thoughts on the Universal Championship?

I have seen a lot of hate for the belt design online. What are your thoughts on it? It's not that bad, is it? I don't even think it's bad at all. It's nothing spectacular, but I don't think it's bad. What's all the hate for? Is it because it's red? So what if it is red? Can't a belt be red?

I think it's perfect for this era of WWE. Shiny, colorful, and utterly uninteresting.

It looks pretty tacky. It's not particularly attractive. And it doesn't give off the impression of being a prestigious prize. As far as championship belt designs go, it ranks pretty low in my mind.

What's worse than all that though, is that it's just the world title but red. That shows a lack of creativity that really gets under my skin. They built up this title for weeks and did a grand unveiling at the show, all for the exact same design that we already have on the other show. That's just dumb.

It's also kinda lame for merchandising reasons. You'd think people will be less psyched to buy all these replica belts if they all look the same (them being ugly doesn't help either).

I think it's just a branding thing, where they want their logo large and clear on there and nothing else matters, but wrestling fans don't like that and it's about time they wise up to this sort of thing. They've spent the last decade moving away from the sort of classic belt designs the fans were used to and the fans still haven't even begun to move with them. They should really have gotten the message by now.

I thought it looked better when Finn had it over his shoulder on Raw. The biggest problem is the red colour makes it look almost the exact same as the Women's title. Wonder how long until the WWE Championship is changed to a blue background?

Well, when Googling the Universal Championship to see a proper image of it, I came across this picture.



They are basically the same belts but with black straps and then blue or red background colouring on the plates. Personally, I don't think they look too bad with black straps and it is definitely an improvement on the red belt. I know I was defending the red belt, but this does look better. I don't know if these were prototype designs or if they are future designs, but just thought I would share.

I've heard the Smackdown women's belt is going to be practically the same as the Raw women's title but with a blue background. So we're going to have the same belt four times basically. It's dumb.

I really thought they were on to something before the new women's title when each belt was specifically distinct and had a totally different look. They were instantly recognizable. Now they don't have that at all.

The UFC has a uniform design for all their titles. I would prefer that the WWE titles all be different as they've always been, but branding is huge for them now I guess.

Yeah it is the same belt but with blue background and the tag titles have blue straps with silver plates. However I am really digging the tag team titles for SmackDown
