AJ Styles

Postby Viazon » Jan 17, '16, 6:52 am

So, I went to an RPW show last night in London. In the main event, AJ Styles lost the championship to Zack Sabre Jr., in what is supposedly his last indy match. After the match, he cut a promo where he hinted that he could be involved in the Royal Rumble match. It could just be a tease. But it could not. Right now I'm taking it with a grain of salt but it would be awesome if true.

EDIT: Found a link to an article about it, which includes a video of his promo.

I could see where he'd be an entrant in the Rumble and then go back to NXT for a while. I think they've done that before.

Well they've had NXT performers make an appearance at the Royal Rumble, and then go back to NXT to keep working (usually until the Raw after Wrestlemania or around then). I don't think anyone has actually returned at the Royal Rumble and then been demoted to NXT though. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

Styles should be a main roster guy though. He's extremely talented, he should be very over, and they desperately need new top level talent. They're short on stars and he could be a star with very little effort. They also have to be paying him much more than an NXT wrestler should typically earn, to the point where it wouldn't make economic sense to put him on NXT. There are smaller crowds for NXT, there's less merchandise sold, and in general the show is just in less of a position to earn money. So if they want to get their money's worth out of Styles, he should debut at the Royal Rumble and then become a permanent fixture on Raw.

If AJ comes out in the Rumble I'll mark out, but even with all the rumblings i'll have to see it to believe it. I'm trying not to get my hopes up so I won't be disappointed. :P

Don't be a spoil sport, Brett. Getting your hopes up and therefore getting disappointed is what the Royal Rumble is all about. It's traditional. :P

I expect WWE to let me down again, and everyone knows I'm one of the most pessimistic fuckers here when it comes to the WWE. But this is the one time a year that I always get my hopes up. I just love the idea of the Royal Rumble, and I like getting excited about it. I'll probably end up disappointed, but it's fun to actually look forward to a WWE show this one time during the year.

I always have a list of things I'm hoping for in a Rumble match and Styles debuting is #1 on that list this year. I really hope they give him the start that he deserves.

I wonder how many people will be sat watching the Rumble, counting down how many entrants are left, still holding out hope for Styles to enter.

I can see it now. #29 has entered, I'm all tense, waiting for Get Ready to Fly or his awesome NJPW theme or something I've never heard before to hit at #30. Countdown starts. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

WEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL

ITS THE BIG SHOW

Even if he doesn't win, they could still make him a big deal, have their idiot announcers hype him up when he comes in. Then have him last a long time, like come in at #10 or something and last until the Final Four. Have him get eliminated by Owens or somebody who's over he can start a program with afterwards.

During the segment where they drew the no.1 entrant for the Royal Rumble, they said something about maybe it being someone the WWE universe has never seen before. Could that perhaps be another little towards AJ?
