Smackdown gets a new Announcer

Postby DBSoT » Dec 14, '15, 9:37 am

WWE has announced that Mauro Ranallo is going to be the voice of Smackdown when they make the move to the USA Network in January.

I know nothing about this guy beside what the link above told me. 30 years doing combat sports is a major plus. Also, he is not Michael Cole.

This will either go well or be a Mike Adamle situation.

He was tremendous doing NJPW ... but I'm sure WWE will fuck him up with all their silly stringent rules and regulations for announcers.

How do you mean Adamle? Because Renallo is well versed in pro wrestling, I believe he did commentating in his early career in Canada for Stampede and he's done New Japan recently. He's a fan of wrestling for his whole life so I don't see any "Jeff Harvey's" on the horizon for him.

Renallo seems like a no nonsense guy to me from what I've seen of him on TV here in Canada. He used to co-host a Raw review show here in Canada on the network that airs Raw with Renee Young and Kyle Edwards, he was very critical and I think that's part of the reason he was removed from the show.

With his outside commitments I think if the rules get too much he'll just quit. It wouldn't surprise me if he lasts less than a year if they micro manage him.

When the commentary is this stale and this bad, new is good.

Currently old isn't good either.

I watched TLC (mainly because I was subscribing for Takeover anyway) and my constant thought throughout the night was how much I hated the commentary. It needs to change. All three of them need to go eventually. Put Graves in JBL's place. Get rid of King all together and then work to transition Michael Cole to a backstage role.

Well presumably with the move to the new network they're at least going to treat it with some respect for a little while. How long I have no idea.

He used to commentate for PRIDE and Elite XC. He's quite good, providing WWE let him do his thing and don't stifle him.
