Booker T

Postby Racing Guy » Apr 28, '15, 1:58 am

I missed this part but apparently he said "Gravity didn't forget Owen" live on RAW? I find it hard to believe that Booker is the kind of person who would make a joke about someones death. I'm sure that wasn't the case but he couldn't possibly have worded that any worse.

Oh man, what was the context on this comment? It's kind of funny to be honest. Still horrible, but kind of funny.

I agree. I think it'd be funny if WWE got kinda edgy with jokes like these lol. It just isn't their style right now so I can't see Book getting away with that.

I don't think that was the exact quote and it certainly wasn't the context he was putting it in. During Neville's match, JBL said something about finally having a high flying king of the ring. JBL then said something about, I guess Owen was kind of a high flyer - talking about his in-ring style. Then Booker said something - I can never understand what Booker is completely saying - that was more simply in reference to Neville being a better in-ring high flyer than Owen.

I don't think it's nearly as big a controversy as it is currently being made into and no one on commentary laughed or tried to make it come off as a joke of any kind.

Yeah Neville was being compared to Owen in terms of being a potential King of The Ring, and then Booker said something like "Yeah, but Owen never defied gravity", a play off of Neville's nickname. It's pretty horrible, yet still kinda funny even I'll admit, and I'm usually easily offended :P

Clearly it was just a slip of the tongue though, no harm no foul.

In that context it doesn't even sound like he was referencing his death though. Was Owen even remotely considered a high flyer? I think that's more what he meant.

Yeah, that's the whole point. I don't think he was referencing his death. I think that was a bad assumption made by some people that took his words out of context and twisted them. Owen was somewhat a high flyer, not nearly that of Neville though, which was what he was saying all along.

This is just an unfortunate use of words, and nothing more. It's not offensive, as it's pretty obvious that he wasn't talking about Owen's death. It's not even one of the more obvious interpretations of what he said, which was perfectly harmless. This is just a case of people reading something into the comments because Owen is linked forever in our minds to thoughts of his untimely demise.

I wouldn't put any blame on Booker for this.

I read that the awkward silence by everyone after the comment made it a whole lot worse.

Yeah, after watching Raw, it is very clear that it was just a very bad choice of words. I'm sure he realised what he said just after he said it.

It's kinda sad, yet hilarious, that almost everyone in this thread on a wrestling forum only heard about this happening and didn't actually see it. Everyone is saying that 'apparently' this is what happened, or this is how things were according to where they read it.

I'm exactly the same, it just really goes to show how many people pay attention to the entirety of Raw these days.

I just wanna say on point that I didn't post in this thread until I watched Raw and saw it for myself. I'm a good boy.
