Overall, that was just a boring Rumble

Postby JDD » Jan 25, '15, 10:19 pm

Take away the Reigns/Bryan stuff, and just look at the rumble match. It was just really boring. We didnt have a good number of people in the ring until around #15, and there was never any real chaos. The kofi spot sucked, the boogeyman was dumb and so was Titus. The ending was really slow, and all the big eliminations(Ambrose, Bryan, Ziggler) felt lazy. Russev coming back at the end felt really unnecesary too and only killed the cheers that came from the Rock.

The highlights were Bubba and DDP but other than that, it was really boring.

It says a lot about your PPV when the most engaging moments were two surprise entrants who had no chance of winning.

I have no idea why Ziggler came out so late. Both him and Ambrose could have injected pace into things, but they were kept until the end for no reason.

Also, they should always save a surprise for close to the end. When there's a few people left and you know who all of them are, it hurts the match.

A good Rumble match has a couple of work horses in from early on to keep the match going strong, and that didn't happen this year. Bryan didn't come out until number 10 and he was dumped out early. Before the other big face workhorses could show up. It made the middle of the Rumble suck.

They also missed out in terms of having Mizdow do a bit more (also they should have had him come out immediately after Bryan was eliminated or after Reigns entered the ring. He would have helped to get rid of some of that heat).

Big Show and Kane absolutely suffocated the match by knocking people out and dumping them to the floor. That just kills all the excitement of the eliminations. Also the fact that these upper midcard guys from the Attitude Era are both in the final four in 2015 is just a bit weird.

The match had some fun moments. I thought the Kofi spot was funny because of Adam Rose getting thrown out right away after. I marked for DDP. I marked for Bubba. But they should have done far more with this Rumble. More spots, more feuds furthered or generated (were there any?), more NXT guys showcased. I mean what the fuck was with Titus O'Neil getting a spot? Jesus.

Just a whole bunch of wasted opportunities in one match.

It took way too long for them to build up the amount of people in the match. For the longest time it was just Brya Wyatt and random jobber, which made it really hard to build up any momentum. Things picked up when Bryan came in at 10, but he got eliminated fairly quickly and that just killed the suspense for the entire rest of the match.

There were some cool spots of course but yeah, there were a whole lot of things that went wrong with this one.

The first half was solid, if a bit underwhelming. Bubba was awesome and DDP was cool. But Bryan getting booted so fast just killed any momentum and the writing was on the wall at that point.

Also, once Bryan got eliminated everyone knew who was going to win the match which killed all the suspense. A Rumble match should never do that. It made the last half hour of the match seem pointless. You should always feel uncertain until right near the end.

Its such an easy event to book too. It practically books itself. The Rumble is popular on its own how do you fuck that up?
