According to reports Daniel Bryan vs Batista was scheduled to take place at the next PPV Payback but Batista didn't want to lose to Bryan as he felt losing to someone so small wouldn't be good for his image ahead of promoting his new Guardians of the Galaxy film and wouldn't make him very memorable when he returns to WWE following his press tour.
Batista initially decided he was going to take some time off after Extreme Rules (which might be why he took the pinfall) but they've managed to persuade him to stick around by furthering the feud between Evolution and The Shield. This is why Daniel Bryan vs Kane is being continued because with Batista not wanting to work with him there's nobody other than Kane for them to stick Bryan with right now. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is being rumored to be defended in a Buried Alive Match at the next PPV.
-----------
Bummer that Batista didn't want to lose to Bryan, say what you will but that'd have been a hell of a scalp for him to have in the early days of his title run. It also explains why they've kept the Bryan/Kane feud going even though it's impossible to get invested in this knowing Kane is just a steady hand and nothing more. Buried Alive would be cool though just as chaotic as the match from last Sunday.
