Shane vs AJ is happening

Postby Str8Shooter » Mar 08, '17, 9:38 am

What's everyone think, on one hand it's probably a waste of AJ's ability to have a 5 star match like he could with a quality in ring opponent. On the other hand, in WWE's eyes I'm sure they see this as a really big match for AJ which is probably good for his career. Let's hope Shane has his working boots on and AJ you know will bust his ass to make this memorable.

It's been noted by others how illogical this feud has panned out in terms of Shane/AJ's alignment but it'd be good if they made AJ more of a heel because Shane would be hesitant to fight along the lines of 'I'm done etc' similiar to Undertaker goading Flair to face him at WM18 by beating the crap out of his son etc but it seems it'll be an easy match-up to make official.

Styles should be doing something else, but they have built to it well so far and its still a high-profile match. It's disappointing but I'm looking forward to it if I'm honest.

Are people okay with this match taking place, or okay with Shane winning? Because there's a strong chance that he will.

After that loss and AJ going after Shane, I figured this was going to happen sooner or later. What I wouldn't like see happening is Shane winning the match.

The match happening.

I don't think there is a strong chance Shane wins. It will be competitive for sure, but when has Shane ever won any of his matches/feuds? Angle, Undertaker, Kane, Show, etc. all beat him. And it isn't like they see Styles as some sort of throwaway wrestler. I don't agree with the decision to pair him up with Shane for WrestleMania, but in the WWE's eyes, it is an honor for Styles. I'd be kind of surprised if he lost.

Here's two things. First of all why did Shane stand up for AJ at the start of SD if that's who he'll be fighting. It should be Bryan vs AJ. Second, no way should Shane win.

I think they purposely had Shane support AJ because it helps heel AJ to be screwing with the guy who hasn't deserved it.

I will care about this feud when they are actually wrestling for something that matters. A grudge feud between them is a good match and nothing else. Why would AJ lower himself to fighting Shane with nothing on the line?

This isn't that bad when you consider the fact that AJ has been involved in the world title scene up until now and Wrestlemania is only 4 weeks away, so there's not not much time for this to really feel like a waste of Styles. Shane can still pop a crowd, AJ can make any match entertaining, and this will likely be a street fight so that will help it stand out from the other matches on the card. All in all not a bad position for Styles to be in at all, and so far all signs have pointed to the company viewing him favorably.

And no way Shane wins, lol.

^^^ It's not so much the time that A.J. will be out of the title scene or even main event scene. It's not a bad thing for a guy at the main level to dip down to a mid card feud or two after an especially long reign. The real problem is that it's happening at the biggest show of the year. The WWE continues to cut off their noses to spite their faces.

In pushing Styles, Cena, Owens and other guys aside that have contributed to the product all year as the current generation of superstars and will contribute for the entirety of next year as the guys who will form the product the 11 months between WrestleMania build-ups, what WWE is saying either intentionally or unintentionally to their audience is our current generation of stars aren't all that great, they don't deserve prominent spots on our biggest show of the year, they continue to just be supporting pieces to our stars of two decades ago - those guys are the last real stars we've been able to create.

That lack of faith is felt by the fanbase and the potential people that could be customers of your product consistently throughout the year. If AJ, Cena, Owens and company aren't good enough that they can't beat out a bunch of 50 year olds that haven't done anything new in two decades why are they worth watching at any point throughout the year when those part timers aren't there? That is the message WWE are sending whether they realize it or not.

A lot of people only watch one wrestling show a year, and it's Wrestlemania. They watch the show, figure it hasn't changed in the last decade because it's still largely all the same guys being used in the top spots, and then don't bother watching for another year because they've had their fill.

Put a guy like Styles in the main event and let him tear the house down, and suddenly those casual fans might turn around and say if this is one of the company's top guys now, maybe they need to tune in a bit more often. Because to them he's new and exciting and they'd want to find out more about him.

Put him in a match against Shane and they'll probably roll their eyes a little at Shane still wrestling, or at most get a bit of a nostalgia pop from it. But Styles won't be able to give the same kind of show-stealing performance against Shane, and might look bad if a slightly out of shape, grey-haired non-wrestler with terrible punches is competitive against him.

It's also worth noting that Shane did fuck all in the Survivor Series tag team match and he still nearly injured two of his opponents and managed to give himself a concussion. That's reason enough to not go putting this guy in matches against the company's best assets - he's a danger to himself and his opponents. Styles can probably help guide him through a match better than most, but it's still not a good idea.

AJ's beating of Shane and the opening promo was brilliant from the former, a shame he's been saddled working with a bloke who is clearly not fit to work through a tough match as Styles deserved more.

I hope Shane wins. It's something Vince would do too, working the smarks is what keeps him alive.
