Did anyone watch the PPV?

Postby prophet » Oct 27, '14, 3:17 am

Anyone at all? :lol

I figured we'd at least get one thread talking about the show! I've just had a skim of the results and I'm pleasantly surprised that Ambrose/Rollins closed the show and I think Wyatt's reemergence sounded really cool - I think that's a pretty strange feud for both men but I dig it, Ambrose shouldn't be fazed by Wyatt's head games and that should be fun to watch.

I do wish the match with Rollins had ended clean though as I think the feud deserved as much. I'm also pretty disheartened that Cena won again because I'm sick to death of seeing him against Brock and the fact they'll paint him as an underdog heading into that match (probably at the Royal Rumble) makes me sick. Orton vs Lesnar could have been really good - though I'm not complaining if we get to see Orton/Rollins.

The image of Viazon and his equally odd mates all sat outside the supermarket eating chicken together in the car is too much :lol

Rusev was solid but is getting old real fast, they need someone that can bring out his best. Show/henry/swagger all had mediocre matches with him and unless they find someone who can get away from the patriotic storyline then I feel russev will fail.

Divas matches were, well, divas matches

Tag match was raw quality

Ziggler/cesaro was good, was surprised with the clean sweep by Ziggler

Mizdow/miz should feud

Orton should have won, was one of cenas better HITC matches though

Ambros/Rollins stole the show but I am pissed that it did not come to an end. Would it really have been that hard to let ambros win then get attacked by wyatt? I have a feeling wwe will push the Wyatt shit and not give an endgame to the ambrose/Rollins story.

All in all 6 out of 10

I'd agree with this. I feel like the Ambrose/Rollins feud deserved a clean finish when it was all said and done so for them to give Rollins another dirty win is a bit irritating. I'm not opposed to an Ambrose/Wyatt feud at all but like you said, would it have been so hard to have Wyatt show up and destroy Ambrose after he'd won/lost the match? Ah well!

I enjoyed the ppv. Cena/Orton was a pretty good match IMO. Far from the worst between the two. Im actually happy that Cena won, because Rollins/Orton should be awesome. Also while slow paced and a not great finish, Ambrose/Rollins was the best HIAC since the ppv started. Some really awesome spots. As for the rest of the matches, Ziggler/Cesaro wa good but I wish it would have gone to 3 falls. The tag match was what I expected it to be, and same goes for the divas match.Miz/Sheamus was awesome solely because of mizdow. Hes so good :lol

Overall PPV gets a 7/10 from me.

I don't get the finish for Ambrose/Rollins. Why wasn't it clean?

It makes no sense.

Maybe not, but to WWE it does. They're scared to have either Rollins or Ambrose lose because they're in the process of pushing both of them. Thus they have screwy finishes like this thinking that it won't make either guy look bad.

I'm not too broken up about it. Ambrose and Wyatt are both good promos, their feud could be just what Wyatt needs to get back to where he was before. I'm sure Rollins and Ambrose will meet up again in the future and now Ambrose can say he never lost fairly to Rollins.

I can understand a dusty finish from Ambrose/Rollins based on everything I know about the feud, although I generally prefer clean finishes in 90 percent of matches. However, what I don't get in looking at the results is why Cena/Orton was twice as long as Ambrose/Rollins, which was the second longest match of the night :o

Technically ambrose and rollins didn't start until they both got in the cell, they actually got about 40 mins of the PPV

Re: Did anyone watch the PPV?

My observation.
-Ambrose beats Rollins clean-
Complaint- The MITB winner lost clean with the Authorities help.

-Rollins beats Ambrose clean-
Complaint- Ambrose is 0-3 against the Rollins and never got a good win.

-Bray interferes-
Complaint- Bray is getting put randomly in the feud and Rollins/Ambrose has no conclusion.

-Bray wins Ambrose feud-
Complaint- Ambrose lost Authority (Rollins) feud and then lost another right after.

-Ambrose wins Bray feud-
Complaint- Bray gets buried by Cena, re-debuts, and loses first feud.

Did I cover every angle? Personally I don't mind Ambrose moving on to Bray because they are two of the best mic workers the company have. Also I could see them beating each other and gaining respect for each other for both having psychotic tendencies. Leading to them working together to fight the Machine (authority). Also I don't mind pushing back the Ambrose/Rollins payoff for a bigger PPV. Save that match for Mania.

Tim, I'm pretty sure a "Dusty Finish" is someone appearing to win a match (usually for a title), then the referee reversing the decision due to some shenanigans. Made popular by Dusty Rhodes while booking in the NWA, not just any old interference finish :D

Cena/Orton was longer because it's Cena/Orton, WWE's new iteration of Hogan/Savage, HBK/Bret, and Austin/Rock..... ;)

Who cares what makes or doesn't make sense to WWE. I just wanted a damn match after being jerked around for months on end with interference, people being taken out, Roman Whogivesafuck coming in for 2 weeks, the match being thrown off a PPV.

Yeah build something up but go to far and people just stop caring.

Case in point, i don't give a fuck now. Why should I care about Ambrose and Wyatt when there's no reason, no justification, no seed, nothing and not even a solid footing that it'll even end properly. What stops someone returning and attacking Ambrose every time? It doesn't make sense.

I watched the match today and I really don't see why people have a problem. The match was entertaining as hell, Ambrose looked really strong in a losing effort, and Bray had a Kane type of debut (singles, no stable). People really worry way to much about win-lost and who looks strong. Cena's booking skews people to think that way.

I watched it. First one in a while, but I wasn't in work today and I was up last night transcribing notes for my exam, so I decided to watch the wrestling at the same time.

It was pretty damn boring. That's almost the only thought I came away with. The matches were fine for the most part. Some of them were good. But there was nothing worth getting excited about. It was hard to give too much of a shit about anything happening because of the weak build. It seemed like an episode of Raw to be honest, which isn't a good sign given there were two Hell in a Cell matches.

JDD wrote:Ambrose/Rollins was the best HIAC since the ppv started

I'm not sure it was even the best of the night. Cena/Orton had the luxury of low expectations, so they were able to surpass them and put on a pretty good match. Finish was predictable as fuck, but it was still an entertaining match. Not exciting because nobody cared about the winner much, but it was one of their better efforts.

Meanwhile, Rollins v Ambrose failed to live up to expectations. People were looking forward to this match for months, but for me it just didn't deliver the goods. A lot of the match was just contrived. Starting on top of the Cell was an obvious call back to Mankind Undertaker, but I just couldn't see a reason why the character of Rollins would engage Ambrose up there at all. Ambrose is the one eager to get his hands on Rollins (inside the cell so there can be no interference), so why make Rollins chase him? I kinda hated the table spot too, that bit of the match bothered me. It was so staged that it completely took me out of kayfabe.

It was great to see those two guys get a pay per view main event, but they stuck all these bells and whistles onto the match that it didn't need. I just wanted to see them have a war inside the cell and finally see a clean finish between the two. That was the pay off I needed to leave the pay per view happy. Instead we get an overbooked match, with very little meat to the actual match itself. And then an infuriating Bray Wyatt interference.

Everything about that annoyed me. Having Bray Wyatt standing tall at the end of the pay per view definitely made it feel like an episode of Raw. It's always bugged me that every creepy character has the magical ability to turn out the lights, but apparently Wyatt has the added ability of being able to walk through cage walls when the lights are off. The whole thing was just stupid. Why bother coming up with a gimmick where it's harder to interfere when you're just going to pull shit like that? If you want to book an interference in a HIAC then earn it. Like when Edge dressed as a camera man, or Vince pulled the door off the sell. Just turning the lights off and turning them back on with the extra guy already in the ring is a huge cop out and it bugs me.

Plus, it would have been nice to get some closure. Wyatt interfering spits in the face of the closure that everyone wanted for this months long feud. It's a really unsatisfying way to finish this feud. And the way it happened doesn't fill me with confidence that Wyatt has changed in the ways he needs to in order to make his character a success. Which means a feud with Ambrose will likely be tedious and not good for either character.

I was definitely disappointed with the main event last night. None of the other matches disappointed, because I wasn't looking forward to them. I don't think many people were. A couple of them were actually quite good (Cena vs Orton, Ziggler vs Cesaro). Another couple were pretty average and forgettable but not bad (tag team titles, Miz vs Sheamus). I thought the stunt double stuff with Mizdow was overplayed though, it stopped it from being as funny. The Divas matches were completely meh. I still can't tell if there's an upside to Paige. And the Bellas just aren't talented enough to play out what could have been a decent story with other performers.

It was an okay show overall, but there's really not much to talk about afterwards so I'm not surprised by the lack of threads. Outside of the main event, it was mostly predictable outcomes in predictable feuds, many of which have been going for ages and which have basically no heat left. It's pretty obvious WWE didn't care about this pay per view.

Cena/Orton exceeded my expectations. It was definitely among their better matches, maybe the best match they've had since Summerslam '07. The RKO (out of nowhere) to Cena's shoulder blocks was sweet. As I was watching this match I couldn't help but notice how much it was vintage Cena. Orton dominated like 70% of the match, basically all the cool spots were stuff that he did. Then Cena randomly jumps up and hits an AA or some other move to get back into the fight. And he didn't really sell exhaustion post-match either. Anyway, good match that didn't need to be Hell in a Cell.

Cesaro/Ziggler was solid. I felt Ziggler got the first fall a little too quickly though. I'll also take this opportunity to cheap plug the Orion Bishop vs. Gabriel Reece 2/3 Falls Match that will take place on the next Onslaught!

Show vs. Rusev was handled very well, a quick and hard-hitting match. I'm digging Rusev a lot. Wonder who he will face next.

Skipped some of the other marches or I don't remember what happened.

Ambrose/Rollins was awesome for the most part. Was really enjoying it up until the ending, which I didn't care for. The other thing that hurt this match was timing - I felt these guys could have gone another 5-10 minutes but they didn't get enough time. Could have cut AJ/Paige.
