Finally started playing the new Tomb Raider

Postby SlightlyJames » Nov 14, '13, 8:16 am

So I know a lot of you guys were posting about this game a few months ago and I heard a lot of great things so I bought it back during the summer sale. I'm only just getting to it. I've played maybe an hour or two so far, haven't really formed a whole opinion of it yet. So far it seems to play a lot like an Uncharted game, though the controls are a little less tight and there's a degree of polish missing from the experience.

From a small part I played later on there seems to be another element of the game that's more reminiscent of Far Cry 3, with free roaming and hunting wild animals and that sort of thing. I'm not sure at this point if the game's going to open up and be a little more free roaming in general with the signature "Tomb" sections being like dungeons placed around the map or if it's going to stay generally linear with contained open sections to do the hunting stuff here and there. Time will tell I guess.

The game certainly looks alright, though it kinda feels like they're taking every opportunity to slap some blood and dirt on Lara to hold true to the early promotion of the game. I've not really taken notice of any particularly great music in the game as of yet. I don't dislike the game but at this stage I'm not entirely sold on it being as good as I've heard. I hope that changes, though.

Yeah as you get farther into the game it opens up a bit more and there are dungeons scattered here and there and items to find. The Uncharted comparison is pretty apt, although not having a PS3 I've only played a bit of Uncharted 2.

Give it a bit longer, it gets better as it goes on. Great story and voice acting and the game itself is beautiful.

I really enjoyed it. Not one of the greatest games ever in my view but the combat archery was very fun.
