What tablet do you have?

Postby Twister » Oct 04, '14, 9:46 am

We recently bought an Asus/Google Nexus 7 after spending a few days comparing other similarly priced tablets and I must say I'm really impressed with it, it's responsive, has a good screen resolution, is reasonably priced and there's a good selection of apps. I figured out how to emulate PSX games relatively quickly on there, so I'm chuffed with that - always had a soft spot for retro games :P The only thing it's missing is an SD card slot, but I can live without that quite easily. Would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to buy a tablet.

What tablet do you guys have and would you recommend it?

Sorry to drag this up but looking to make a concerted attempt to look for a tablet.

I did buy a PS Vita as I felt it'd be good to have something to play the odd game (Football Manager/FIFA) but tend to use it more for Twitter/Facebook/general web browsing plus the typing isn't ideal. A tablet would allow me to do all these things plus to watch catch up TV if necessary.

I've used an Ipad for work and tbh, my 8 year old niece knows how to work it better than me. I'm open to other tablets (a Samsung user) but worried other manufacturers' tablets may have some sort of restrictions relating to apps compared to Ipad?

So, do the guys above have the same tablets or has there been a change? @Twister @SlightlyJames @JPG619

I thought my tablet had died yesterday but it seems to have been resurrected somehow. Still using my 2012 Nexus 7, still loving it (though the 2013 one is a straight upgrade, get that if you're getting one)

I've never had a tablet, and I'm not particularly sure what I'd use one for. Tablet users: what DO you use it for?

I still have it but i am hardly on it since earlier this year. There are a few dead pixels on the screen that happened around spring of this year and they kind of stand out but for the life of it I think it lasted a while. I got it June of 2011 and had many hours on it.

Now I mostly just use it for my bus ride to work to keep my busy but besides that I am on my computer more and more these days.

I also have a nexus 7 and I like it alot, besides the aforementioned lack of sd card the overall performance is great for someone who doe s not require heave processing for office type programs.

As for the usage, games, online browsing, toilet time, ect.. I do find that I rarely open my laptop now because the tablet takes care of most tasks with ease.

We still have our Nexus 7 (2013 model, I think). It's still going strong and we still love it.

We mainly use it for watching things, so Netflix, WWE Network, Youtube etc, whilst the other half plays Fifa on the main TV in the evenings, our nearly 3 year old plays kid-friendly apps on it occasionally too. Very rarely it gets used for social media and general internet browsing but when I have used it for that it's been fine.

After a chat with the Mrs, who encouraged me to go for a more expensive purchase rather than my current spending limit of around £150 for a tablet, considering an Ipad but are most of the tablets Flash enabled?

I personally think iPads are very over rated and I don't believe they can do anything my Nexus 7 can't. They are nice I guess but you're paying for the name.

Right, I've narrowed it down to Nexus 9 and Ipad Mini 2. Both tablets would mean I'd spend bit more (around £200 on Amazon) but might aswell spend bit extra for that bit of quality!

I remember the days when electrical items you had Dixons, Currys, Comet and now it's really Currys/Carphone Warehouse.. any other places to check out would be appreciated.

I'd nudge you towards the Nexus obviously. I probably wouldn't get one that big, think my 7 is a nice size but if that's what you're after I'd say the Nexus would be a good shout.

So, this thread is continuing as long as my sporadic thoughts of thinking about getting a tablet, researching, and then not ending up getting one continue. Then the cycle continues..

Anyhow, I'm looking at a Lenovo Tab 3 Yoga which has impressive hardware but not so much fluent software and glitchiness.

Basically, as long as I can use social media, web browse, listen to podcasts and the odd TV programming, then that'll do. Setting myself a budget of 150. I think a 10 inch might be too big as I use a Vita atm, maybe a 7 inch?

Thoughts appreciated.

I have a Amazon Fire tablet and it works great for what I use it for; Facebook, YouTube, and iHeartRadio.
