Pokemon vs Yu-Gi-Oh

Postby SKS » Apr 23, '14, 1:01 pm

This is a tough one, which do you like more? I have to go with Yu-Gi-Oh although the Pokemon tv series was never ruined quite like Yu-Gi-Oh GX or whatever that awful thing was called. Card wise I really enjoyed Yu-Gi-Oh, actually went to a few tournaments.

As far as the cards go Yu-Gi-Oh beats out Pokemon easily. I also enjoyed the original Yu-Gi-Oh cartoon just a tad bit more than Pokemon. It's really really close there. The Pokemon video games are way better though and I love getting the new ones. But ya I'm giving it to Yu-Gi-Oh by the slimmest of margins.

Yu-Gi-Oh wins in a best 2/3 for me:

Video Games - Pokemon easily. The best part of the whole franchise.

TV Show - I watched both as a kid, Yu-Gi-Oh was my favorite series. Pokemon was more kiddish and every episode was the same. Yu-Gi-Oh was darker and more badass.

Card Game - Yu-Gi-Oh

Clearly you do not believe in the Heart of the Cards.

Yugi-oh for me. Pokemon definitely has the better video games, but Yugi-Oh has the better tv series. I still watch it on Saturday mornings.

I never really got into the card games, but the Yugi-oh cards just look cooler to me.

This could not be more harder for me. I LOVE POKEMON. From the movies to the games to the fucking pokemon mystery dungeons bullshit. Pokemon WAS and sometimes still is LIFE. Pokemon Blue was the absolute best fucking game ever made. The only downside was after the 3rd gen, they started getting lazy with the designs. I mean really a fucking ICE CREAM CONE? However, Pokemon The Movie is still in my vhs library. You can tell me you didnt cry when Ash got turned to stone. :(

Yu Gi Oh was just badass in its own right. The show was cool as shit, the card were better as well. I played more YuGiOh matches than I ever did Pokemon. Pokemon wins in the video game department obviously but YiGiOh cards were just better. Blue Eyes White Dragon fuck the world.

Its a really hard choice. I almost CANT vote.

I never cared about Pokemon. When I was 13, everyone was obsessed with the Gameboy games, but I tried playing one and just found it really boring. The cartoon was okay, but nothing to write home about.

The YuGiOh cartoon was a bit better, at least in my mind. I liked Bakurah a lot, I was annoyed that the cartoon ended before his story ended. They were clearly slow building him to be the final villain and it was a cool idea. Too bad it never paid off.

Also I used to play weird six-person versions of YuGiOh that would start in the evening and often run until 6am, and those were some fun times. So obviously YuGiOh got my vote.

It did actually. I don't know if you watched the final season of the original series but he was the main villain in it.

Really? I thought it got cancelled before it got to that point. Maybe they just stopped airing the show on television over here. I might have to check some of that out now ...

The last I saw of him on the show was when he deliberately got himself locked in the Millennium Puzzle. I think they showed a little of him exploring inside the puzzle afterwards, but the show stopped airing before they could show where the whole thing was going. I did hear that he was the main villain in the manga though.

Haha, him getting locked inside the puzzle happened pretty early in the series. I guess you guys really got screwed over. But yeah, the last season takes place in Ancient Egypt, where Yugi is the Pharaoh and Bakura is an evil thief king that manages to obtain all the millennium items.

Well I never saw/did anything related to Yu Gi Oh, and I haven't paid attention to Pokemon in years. But at the time Red/Blue/Yellow were out, I was a HUGE fan of the games, and collected the cards for a while too. So I guess I'd go Pokemon.
