Re: Why does Reigns keep fighting Show?

The fact that the WWE still discerns the Big Show as a monster giant who is powerful and unstoppable is laughable in the extreme. I don't think anybody buys it anymore. I sure as hell don't.

10 Essential Australian Films I'd Recommend

I love to watch Australian cinema. I love to think about Australian cinema. I love to write about Australian cinema. I love the distinctiveness of Australian cinema. I love the unconventionality of Australian cinema. The perversion. The aberrance. The oddness. The craziness. I love Australian cinema...

Re: The most depressing movie

The Girl Next Door has to be up there. It has to be one of the most upsetting and disturbing films I have seen. It truly makes you feel helpless and despondent. It's brutal and hard to watch. It makes you feel so arrantly dejected, disconsolate and wretched. So much so I have never ventured to revis...

Re: How much do you share with your friends?

I have always been very reticent. In general, I find it difficult to express deeply personal and secretive things to others. I am always the listener , especially amongst my friends. I am rather detached and lot of this stems from personal things that have happened in my life. But it's also the same...

Re: Are there any commercials that have ever made you want to completely avoid a product or company?

I recall this commercial being very popular in Australia at one time. Even to this day, I find it off-putting and unpleasant.

Re: Who's watched The Sopranos?

It's one of my absolute all-time favourite television works. The writing is sublime all around, and it engenders some of the greatest black comedy and satire I have ever seen - it's often hilarious and facetious, but also highly dramatic and even rather powerful and poignant in areas. It touches upo...

Re: PubTalkForum's Academy Awards Winners

Keaton deserved to win over Redmayne, I agree, but as Hanley accurately mentioned, the latter was a familiar and enticing performance that played safely into the hands of what the Academy generally seek when voting. I was somewhat surprised that The Grand Budapest Hotel won Best Cinematography. Of c...

PubTalkForum's Academy Awards Winners

Unfortunately, not too many people submitted their votes in. To those that did, thank you. I wasn't going to go ahead with this (considering the lack of participation), but I still nonetheless counted the votes. Here are the results: Best Picture: Whiplash and Birdman (tie) Best Actor: Michael Keato...

Re: Walking Dead introduces gay couple. Typical ignorant chaos ensues

using historical examples that I personally wanted to use There are plenty more examples to substantiate my assertion, too. Japanese films after WWII largely reflected the social, political and cultural climate of the broken and devastated state - a period in time in which the people of Japan were ...

Re: Walking Dead introduces gay couple. Typical ignorant chaos ensues

The assertions @Circled Square is postulating in this thread may sound conspiratorial, but I feel the need to further explicate on his ideas if only for clarification's sake. The notion of a powerful minority group forcing something down our throats and dictating our cultural, economic and political...

Re: Walking Dead introduces gay couple. Typical ignorant chaos ensues

Ah, should have covered that. Under a different definition that I'm unaware of at the moment, you seem like a smart guy, maybe you'll know what I'm getting at - I think that the current political landscape is on in favor of emotional social justice movements. People growing up now aren't discipline...

Re: Walking Dead introduces gay couple. Typical ignorant chaos ensues

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. The media has forced gayness down our throats (lmao) and every show now has to have the token gay person. Just like suspected Bond guys nowadays are sometimes black, how interracial relationships are being pushed through. The world is now so sensitive. Al...

Re: The IMDB 250

12 Angry Man is fantastic filmmaking. The blocking and framing is some of the best you'll ever see from that time period, and the writing is sublime. In saying that, Lumet has produced superior works, notably the darkly satirical Network and criminally overlooked The Pawnbroker, the latter being an ...

Re: What do you think is the greatest ever acting performance in a movie?

This is tough. Almost too tough. In terms of a purely visual performance, Renée Jeanne Falconetti in The Passion of Joan of Arc. But, ultimately, I'd say Hossain Sabzian in Close-Up.

Re: PubTalkForum's Academy Awards Nomination List

Thank you, @Everlong. Since only a few posters have submitted their lists in, I'll give everyone one more week to catch up on any viewings and finalise their nominations. I'll announce the winners at the end of the month and then compare it with the actual winners of the Academy Awards ceremony that...
