My family (in Australia) dont do a dinner or lunch. We've always done a massive breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, tomato and beer.

We are done by like 11:30, then you can go do your commitments elsewhere (Girlfriends, in-laws etc).

They probably keep things the same as they know how to do certain things, and probably wont get hurt from them. They work 300 days a year, and if they are off injured because they tried something new, thats less money for them.
