Re: What's a useless fact that only people in your line of work care about?

I don't think there are any "useless" facts.

Ummm.... The dissolution of limestone actually sequesters CO2 from the atmosphere. So... GO CAVES!

Re: Your username backstory

Caving: I am a caver by hobby and by career. I am a cave geologist (I do geochemistry work on stalagmites).

Siberians: I have two siberian huskies, one 12 years old (on Saturday is her 12th birthday, actually), and one that is 10.5 months old. :) They are the best.

Re: How many countries of the world can you name?

I got 92, but mostly that's because I couldn't type fast enough to get more (and spell them correctly). Also, I had to argue with the system that Aruba and Greenland are countries. It insisted that it's not. NO JOKE! Aruba and Curacao both should be countries. I should know, I've been there. They h...

Re: Actor/Comedian Tracy Morgan in critical condition.

Sorry to Morgan and others involved in the crash, but reading the comments in the news articles are hilarious. People are strange, arguing over why the truck driver was arrested, blah blah.

Re: How many countries of the world can you name?

Well that was frustrating. Ha ha. Couldn't spell Lithuania for anything, then I hit the enter button and it gave me all the answers before I was finished.

Re: Something ate this shark... but what?

Most likely it was eaten but interesting. I mean, maybe the shark was injured and then only parts of it were consumed (the part that contained the tracking device). Doesn't have to be that big, really, if the shark was, let's say killed by a foreign fisherman who threw the crap of the shark into the...

Re: Something ate this shark... but what?

We actually know more about space than our own oceans. We've explored less than 5% of our oceans... how crazy is that? I'd disagree with that seeing as how what we have explored of space is part of something so large we can't even quantify a percent that has been explored. :) It's always an interes...

Re: Two 12-year old Wisconsin girls stab friend 19 times to please Slenderman

....so, um... who is Slenderman????

This is pretty screwed up. Luckily they didn't manage to kill their "friend" but still..... wow. They need some serious psychiatric assessment if some ficitional character convinced them to kill a girl.

...but really, who is this Slenderman???

Re: Do you have a 5 year plan?

Hmm... 5 yr plan. I suppose I plan to have my PhD and have a faculty position 5 years from now... hopefully somewhere coastal with mountains. (e.g. the Northwest U.S.). Maybe find the right man to be in a relationship..but I highly doubt it. It's hard to find a man willing to let the woman be a gyps...

Re: What's a food item that is unique to/known for where you're from?

Rob, for Missouri you could have mentioned Kansas City style BBQ. In all m travels I have discovered that each region has a different kind of BBQ. Memphis is sweeter... Alabama does this white BBQ sauce that is primarily mayo. Ewww.. When I went to visit my friends in Canada I had some poutine. Of c...

Here are a few for me: WISCONSIN/MILWAUKEE -Fried cheese curds. Cheese curds and cheese in general are a very Wisconsin thing, but it doesn't get more Wisconsin than fried cheese curds. -Beer. Everyone knows Miller, Pabst, Blatz, Schlitz, Milwaukee's Best, Old Milwaukee. All those are shit though c...

Re: Your most painful moments.

Hmm... I had a pair of scissors go through my palm. It was lovely. Took months for my ring and middle finger to be able to fully extend again, not to mention the accompanyment of a high-grade fever because I thought I could fix it myself with super glue. FYI: Puncture wounds and super glue are a no-...
